You don't have to kill yourself for a decent tip, but never take it for granted. My wife really beats me up if she thinks I'm tipping too much for the service we get!

My wife really beats me up if she thinks I'm tipping too much for the service we get!Around here, you can pour your heart and soul into your job, and still get left a lousy 2% tip. I put my heart into my job. I work so hard, and try so hard, and I give people the same quality of service I would expect, and I still get nothing in return. It's different when you've been there, you know? Being on the receiving end now, I NEVER leave less than a $5 tip (even if the bill is under $5), and I usually leave 25%-30%...I guess I'm unusually generous.I used to work at Target. Before that, I'd have no problems picking up something on one side of the store, and then changing my mind elsewhere and dumping it. Now, I'll walk all the way back across the store to put something back where it belongs. I guess I'm a loser.

I know exactly what you mean. I am a restaurant manager at Romano's Macaroni Grill. Being in the restaurant industry, I know what servers, chefs (was the Executive Chef at the same restaurant), and everyone in the business goes through. Even if I get get bad service, I will still tip 15%. The only time I will tip less than that is if the service is HORRID. 25-30% is my usual as well. You should try Macaroni Grill if there is one in your area. Jim

Putting your heart into your work is the first step. It also seems like you are learning that actions have consequences, so you now put things back at a store instead of leaving it for others to do. Little steps, but important, nonetheless. Get that degreee and grab life by the, er, uh, (can I say cojones here?)...
