Are we talking about the ram air hood or the tubing from the front bumper? I was talking about the tubing from the front bumper. I'm pretty sure the hoods come with a box or something so it does fit. I can't remember where I saw that though
Haha s'ok. But I'm pretty sure that the ram air hood comes with a box that you install so that it does actually fit snug and sealed when the hood is closed.

Additional risk of water ingestion and engine damage. this is not an adequate con, there is no way water ingestion can harm the engine with the short ram intake, unless you have a ram air hood. now a CAI or Cold Air Intake there is a big way for water to enter the engine. for water to get into the engine with a short Ram you have to literally drive your car through a 5ft puddle or stream to where water can rush up and into the engine bay. but anyway, i have the Cosmo Racing SR intake and i like, though i do miss my Injen CAI ( ) i like the way the intake sounds.

Hydrolocking your engine isn't an adequate con? Seems pretty adequate to me, and it can happen with any aftermarket system since they are not tested to the same standards that the OEM system is tested to. I have seen the GM water ingestion test at the proving grounds and I can tell you that running a car through even six inches of water at 35mph will most certainly pump water into every corner of that engine bay and a good 30 ft either side of the car. Will this happen to you? Probably not if you avoid puddles and rainy days but that one time you forget or hit a puddle that is deeper than you expected it will be too late.
Not saying that this should completely eliminate water, but both of these products should minimalize the risk:1. Yes, I am aware this is a heat shield for a CAI, but something similar to this should work similarily to an SRI.http://www.weapon-r.com/englis...h=5372. You can also get this Injen Hydro Shield:http://www.autoanything.com/ai....aspxAgain, I do recognize that this is for CAI, but it should fit on a SRI because I'm pretty sure the filters are interchangable between the two? (can someone let me know if I'm right or wrong with that?)Injen claims that it does repel light showers, deluges and even sand storms.Quote »Features- Sitting on top of your performance air filter, the Hydro Shield blocks water and microscopic particles from getting into your engine - Drive confidently through light showers, deluges or even sand storms - While repelling water, the Hydro Shield still allows wide-open airflow, letting your performance air filter deliver huge horsepower and torque gains - The Hydro Shield's embedded hydrophobic treatment creates uniform micron-sized pores that filter out water and debris as small as .005" - Expertly crafted from highly durable, racetrack proven polyester - Your Hydro Shield was engineered to work best with cold air intakes that position the air filter outside of the engine compartment
I have the SLP hood with a K&N SRI. I built a custom airbox that seals to the hood. I also mounted the factory bypass valve that opens during lift on the back of my airbox. It works well, but I will be modifying it next summer for better flow. I plan to cut the bottom of the hood off and lower it for more volume and to make it seal directly to another airbox. I have a noticeable improvement in power especially at higher speeds when the ram-air is truly functioning.

Tube is metal. Had no choice there. I got it through Autozone since I frequent there and had enough rewards to cover the ridiculous price of $250. Otherwise I would never have paid that for it. WAY over price IMO. As far as cost, I found the hood for $150 on this board. Then the SRI was $250 (free for me) and the rest is custom. Thanks for the compliments! You will like it much better though when I mod it next summer! I'm not concerned about the metal pipe because it is only pulling outside air, and doesn't have much of a chance to warm up in there. There are also holes in the hood to let water escape before it hits the airbox, and I think these are letting the excess fresh air blow right on the intake tube keeping it cool as well.

Again, your system is SAHWEEEEEEEEET! Lots of work, lots of creativity there. I wonder if the metal tube could be replicated with PVC tube??? I'm happy with the simplicity, functionality and cost (<$10) of my set up but again, your set-up is over the top - nice job.
i can also disprove that i have a SR and have gone through puddles over 6ins of water with no problem. now with a CAI there definitely a higher risk of hydro-locking.now that is not saying that there is other engine or transmission type damage that can occur with 6"+ of water, not necessarily hydro-locking.

You'd have to make it more of an enclosed box, but that's the only picture I came across lolAmtron,What system is this and is it available for the Vibe?

I have yet to install a intake on my vibe but I plan on a system like truckin1999 has. I also have a slp hood, and plan on a short ram with a box around it. On the subject of water ingestion, my last car was a 93 jeep cherokee. I made my own short ram intake with a box around the filter it sealed against the hood with a rubber seal and air came in though a hole behind the headlight. I went off road with the jeep alot, and was in water over the bumper a few times and never had any water in or near the filter. Diving though a puddle would not make the motor suck water.
