outside driver's door handle

Post by joholste »

ok so when i opened my door this morning i and all my great ultimate brute strength managed to pull the door handle off at the front pivot. has this happened to anyone else. can someone who has the capability to get the parts at dealer cost help me out? will it be a hard fix.

I wouldn't blame your brute strenght, it's all about defective parts. Does it look anything like this? This happened to the Vibe my buddy used to own... The thing just broke off when he went to open the stupid door... http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5687

If you can get a hold of the part number and find a cheap source for the part, yep, it can be done yourself. I don't have the procedure on doing it, but I don't think it would be too terribly hard.Hate to see it break though, that dog gone cheap plastic.

this is what my parts list says:handle, outsideblackw/rpo-d75 r/l 88971449wo/rpo-d75 r/l 88969863 $21.61they also have blue 88971461 $20.85grey 88971456green? 88971460red 44u 88971458red 81u 88971459silver 88971455white 88971454I think the RPO-D75 is either a gloss or satin finish for black the 44u and 81u and salsa and lava hope this helps it should be easy to change. I would IM tnpartsguy and see what he could do for you

I just had that same clip bust on my exterior 2003 vibe door handle (pass/rear). Were you able to acquire the part(s) and replace the handle yourself? Or is this a job better left to the experts instead of a do-it-yourselfer.

Two years ago, when I was having my windshield replaced for the first time on my '03, the glass guy pulled the driver's side handle right off. They went over to the Pontiac dealer, came back and snapped the part right back on themselves. They paid for it but I think they said it cost about $30.

Yep, it's about like you said. A trip to the dealer ($52 yikes), remove the door panel and lock assembly and viola. (Viola = 2.5 hours = 4.2 beers)

I'd guess its the w/o RPO d-75..... but I just wanna make sure...EDIT: Parts sites say "Front door - Lock and hardware - Handle outside - W/o body colorW/o body color Back 2003 - 2008"So I'd assume this is correct...?

Not sure what RPO D75 Is... Perhaps check your service parts identification label in the glove box and that should tell you if you have that option.
