06 Vibe dome lamps inop

Post by mcgvector »

Door open indicator on instrument panel shows door(s) to be open.I have +12v at both dome lamps, but no ground.Lamps do not work set to "on" or "door'.Lamps do not work when keyless used to unlock.I'm thinking integration module/multifunction alarm module.Anyone with similar experience? If relay, how much $ and is it cheaper @ Toyota or GM?Thanks in advance for any help.Frankmcgvector@gmail.com

This may sound silly, but have you tried new bulbs? You made no mention of trying a bulb, I'd try that before a module..There is no ground because it's prolly grounded right to the roof, on a bolt.. common ground style..

Bulbs are good.As I said, I have 12v+ @ dome but no ground. The ground is switched through the module (per electrical wiring diagram 03-07 Matrix). Thanks,Frank

Oh, ok so it's switched ground, i've never looked at the schematics.. Have you followed it back to the module? Do you have ground before it.? I mean now it sounds like the module, is it just a relay... You might want to try both, and see which is cheaper, but generally is the toyota dealer..

There was someone else here who had a similar problem that turned out to be the dimmer switch. I'd suspect your dimmer switch, not the module.I am a little confused, since I have an 03 Vibe, I don't know when or if the dome light wiring changed. I have an 03 matrix schematic, which matches my car, and an 07 matrix schematic, which doesn't. I don't know which is relevant to an 06 Vibe. The main difference is that in the 03 version, the dimmer switch controls whether the dome lights are on, off, or door mode. THe 07 schematic doesn't show the dimmer switch at all, instead it looks like the on/off/door switches are part of the dome lights themselves. The 03 schematic is at http://forums.genvibe.com/zerofile/8118/021il.pdfThe 07 schematic is at http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...0.pdfWhich applies to a 2006 Vibe?

I'm reminded by events today to NOT overcomplicate things, and don't make quick assumptions.Today, after checking connections @ MFA module and all harnesses going across or up or anywhere, I decided to pull the dome light assembly down and see what I could learn with a voltmeter.I didn't expect much, because BOTH dome light assemblies couldn't be bad at the same time, right? After confirming that the switch was NOT doing what it should, I disassembled the switch (watch out for the ball bearing jumping out), and cleaned/scraped the corrosion of the switch terminals.I reassembled, reinstalled, tested good and did the same with the other dome light assembly.I was reminded of something that happened to me 25 years ago when I serviced car stereos. A cute young thing came in with her VW and said the radio was dead. I did the usual-check for a thump when turning on after verifying 12v+, and I got no thump.I pulled the radio because both speakers can't be bad at the same time, right?Bench test radio-OK.HUH?Bring car back in to check speakers-both open.Felt like a toad. Thanks to all who replied to my original post and tried to help.Frank McGovernmcgvector@gmail.com
