Thought this might be of interest since the Vibe has a Toyota drivetrain, although not the one in question:
http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/200 ... sludge.htm Basically, Toyota 2.2L I4 and 3.0L V6 engines built from 1997-2002 and available in the Camry, Avalon, Highlander, Sienna, and Lexus ES and RX 300's has some design flaw which is causing oil sludge to kill the engine.Toyota believes the real reason is maintenance neglect and going to long between oil changes. They are also going to reimburse anyone who has had to repair their car because of this problem, pay for any rental car expenses, and have redesigned the parts in question to avoid any future problems. Its nice to see they haven't decided just to abandon their customers who may not be under warrenty anymore!
