well i purchased a new deck for the vibe, havent installed it yet, but will shortly! very excited and love it so far(looks wise) i picked up the Alpine CDA-9886, got it from a friend.
thanks, just gotta do the wiring still and plop it all in..i'd like to solder it and use the heatshrinks to make it nice and clean...so just matching up the wires now and gotta find/buy a soldering kit, not expensive and its handy if i need it later on
well im done the soldering part of the harnesses...now it's just a matter of taking out the stock deck and slapping in the new one..will have pics up tomorrow after work! heres a few pics of the harnesses, cut the Alpine one down quite abit, then did the barrel knot as sublime posted in his "how-to" then used heatshrink tubes to cover them up..theirs a few i forgot to put the tubes on first then solder, thats why theirs about 4 or 5 that has tape on them insteadstock harness(bottom) and the alpine harness on the topmy "barrel knot"harness all completei had 4 left over wires 3 from the alpine harness and 1 from the stock one so i used a heatshrink tube and folded the end of it in to make a noose type thingand heres a couple of of the connections after soldered and heatshrunk
lol and get my white carpet dirty? i think not! and ya the wiring took me about an hour..but had other things to do so didnt get to the installing..thats why it's tomorrow
Instead of connecting the wires like that before soldering, I've found it easier hooking the exposed wire together like two candy canes, then soldering.
i found it easier like this so i can get the heatshrink tubes over top of them..i only had the 1/8th diameter tubes but it worked good, doesnt really matter how you do it
EXCELLENT work man.... !!! Those knots look MUCH better than the ones I posed... Maybe I could borrow that one pic for my install tutorial?? It would definitly represent what I was trying to show MUCH better...Now, for the install pics..

Now, for the install pics.. so far i love the deck, i gotta play around with it abit and see what i can and cant do..and of course i forgot my cable for the ipod so i may have to take the deck out again just to plug it in..unless i can find away to get my hand up behind or even through the glove compartment to get to the loose wire

I had to fish mine in from the top down.Looks sharp in the Vibe. I hope you at least had some socks on when you went out to the car...
I have the same radio and install kit. It's like you took a picture of my dash. Best receiver I have ever had and I've gone through 6 different ones in the last two years. Unfortunetly, even though I've only had this unit for 3 months, I'm replacing it next week with the 9887 model with the built in crossovers in order to run my speakers active. The Ipod controls with the dedicated cable are the best I've used. I installed the cable in the opening below the radio so I had easy access to remove the Ipod. Are you planning to use the USB?
probably not gonna use the USB...i have my ipod hooked up to it..i have it running underneath the shifter along the center console..and ya..havent really done much other then that..but so far i love this receiver aswell..couldnt be happier..just 1 little thing annoys me...is when i first put the faceplate on..sometimes it takes a few tries to get it on properly

As you are new, I don't know you yet(welcome BTW), and I would like to make sure you are getting into "active" correctly... I'll be running active through an Alpine h701 processor with the c701 cotroller, no HU, just a modded xBox running optical into the 701...!!! woot woot.... lol...
thanks man..i really like the alpines too..it was either that or a pioneer..but liked the features and the price i got for the alpine so i picked it up..love it so far..i usually have it at 7..and it's loud lol..so im sure to blow my stock speakers soon
