Replacement Remotes and Keys Source

Post by 1badmf »

I tried searching but couldn't find anything. We bought a '07 Vibe and it had only one set of keys and remote. The dealer wanted about $150 for a replacement remote, programming, and cutting a key.I found a seller on ebay midwestkeyless. He had new and used remotes that come with a free key blank. I bought a used one in great condition for $18 shipped. It included instructions for how to program it. Link to Vibe Items:http://motors.search.ebay.com/...fgtp= The directions to program it can be found here:http://ebiz.netopia.com/pyr/toy451/ After following the crazy instructions, it worked like a charm. I actually received a remote that has a Toyota emblem on the back. Also it has a panic button which the standard Vibe remote didn't have.I also called the local dealership and they said they'd cut the key for free because I already had a blank. All in all, $18 bucks for a remote and key is pretty sweet. I am in no way affiliated with this seller, just sharing what I found.

Start with the key out of the ignition. Open the driver door (all other doors are closed). Driver door is unlocked (other doors don’t matter).Perform these steps within 5 secondsInsert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) Pull key outInsert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) Pull key outPerform these steps within 40 secondsClose, then open the drivers door.Close, then open the drivers door.Insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) and pull it out.Perform these steps within 40 secondsClose, then open the drivers door.Close, then open the drivers door.Insert the key into the ignition and leave in the ignition.Close the drivers doorTurn the ignition to ON (as far as you can go without cranking the engine), then back to off . Remove the key from the ignition.Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should lock then unlock automatically indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.Perform these steps within 40 secondsPress the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 1.5 secondsImmediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock then unlock once indicating successful programming. If the door locks cycle twice, repeat steps 6a and 6b as the remote was not accepted. Open drivers doorThen you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around . . . .

I understand there is a limit on how many remotes can be programmed - never understood why - "how do it know?".

It was a weird thing when the doors started locking and unlocking by themselves as part of the sequence. But it worked, just like it said it would.Quote, originally posted by jake75 »I understand there is a limit on how many remotes can be programmed - never understood why - "how do it know?".I hear 4 remotes is the magic number. Not sure why it matters, but that's what I hear.
