I am thinking about having my windows tinted, and the window tint has some metal in it. The installer said that it will interfere with my AM radio, because the AM antenna is in the rear window defroster. I listen to a lot of AM radio, and don't want to loose any quality. Does anyone know a way around this issue, other than using a cheaper tint that doesn't have the metal component to it?ThanksLoren
There is no separate outboard AM antenna. It's either part of the roof mast or (more likely) it's a ferrite rod inside the radio itself.Your installer is a doofus.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
It's just a defroster on the back glass, no antenna. It is true that tinting *can* have some of an impact on reception for in-glass antennas, however that only affects cars that actually have in glass antennas, the Vibe does not. Tinting the glass in this car will have absolutely no impact on radio reception. Go for the more expensive tint, the itty bitty metallic particles won't hurt a thing. Don't cheap out, that stuff is crap. I've had Llumar with the metallic stuff in it for the last two cars, it's great stuff!
