On my Vibe's hood there are a number of paint chips, which seems to be a fairly common problem. Some of them have began to show a little rust, which is something that I need to fix before I cover them with touch-up paint. Of course though is the problem that these paint chips are so tiny (~1-2mm in diameter) that they may be rather hard to fix. What would be the best way to remove the rust from these areas? I don't know if sandpaper would work well because these are tiny spots. If anyone has any suggestions as to how they would do/did this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I tried finding it, but i couldn't. 3M used to make a pen type thing that had a fiberglass tip that you used to clean the chip area and then the other end had a rust converting applicator that you put on and then painted over... I looked for like 10min and couldn't find it though...
I got some of the rust converter from paintscratch.com, I plan on trying it pretty soon, if it works well I will try to mention it on here. I need to do it quick before summer ends anyway, I am in the same boat with my 2003 Vibe.
I've heard of people using an engraver, because the tip is so fine it gets the rust out without disturbing the paint around it.

I guess I'll try the Naval Jelly. Does it have the ability to damage the surrounding paint at all? or is that something I don't need to worry about? Thanks for all the advice!
I have used it directly on the paint, with out any problems in the past.WHAT i would suggest you try is this, spray or dab the jelly on to a Q-tip and apply it that way. In about 2 mins, wipe the excess away with a clean soft towel, then, wash it with water and all the rust should be gone. If not dry the area again and repeat. The less time left on the paint the better, to be on the safe side, but like I said before. I have never had a problem. After the rust is removed. Besure to dry the area very well and cover the chips up with new paint right away, or the next day when you come out the rust will be back again.
