Being an engine geek, I'm fascinated with that engine. The fact that I'm an engine geek is also why I ordered the Vibe GT...the more I read about the 2zz engine the more I knew I wanted one.Anyway, that engine has as its root the VW VR6 engine, the one that was in my 96 Jetta GLX. VW wanted a 6-cylinder that would fit in a space designed for 4 cylinders. A conventional 60 or 90 degree V was too wide, and an inline 6 would have been too long. So they made a 15 degree V between the cylinder banks and capped it with a single head casting. Because it has one head covering 2 banks of cylinders, the tops of the pistons are angled to keep them square with the head and keep compression consistent at 10:1 all around. Like an inline engine, the air comes in on one side of the engine, and the exhaust exits on the other side, making for an incredibly complex head casting. And due to space limitations, the exhaust ports are different shapes...they alternate between roughly square and kinda oblong. Looks odd, but it works. The end result was 172-177 hp (depending on if it was installed in a Corrado, Passat, or Jetta), and 173-177 lb-ft of torque. And the sound is amazing on those...little bit of a lope at idle, turning into a brassy moan in the midrange, and a beautiful deep throaty scream at the high end. I bought the Jetta simply because of the engine. Later versions fattened the torque curve, and the latest models are either 2.8L and 200 hp with the new 4-valve head, or 3.2L and 240hp in the Golf R32 or Audi TT 3.2. And for non-north America use, there were also 4 and 5 cylinder variations. The great thing about that engine is its flexibility...the W8 in the Passat W8 is just 2 VR4 engines joined at the crank, and the 16 cylinder model is 4 VR4 engines. I know VW messed with a W12 version (2 VR6 engines) but don't know if it is in production anywhere...might be the engine that's in the VW Paheton 12 cylinder, but I'm not positive. The Bugatti W16 is a great engine...has its roots in a mass produced sedan engine, but it obviously delivers the goods with 1001 hp.

That is the coolest car ever built. What's even cooler is how you get it to hit its top speed.http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/n....html

I notice the MPG is blank. Is that because it's actually rated in gallons per mile?

Fastest (and most expensive) car on the planet!

Post by ~MRVIBE2006~ »

If anyone hasn't heard of the Bugatti Veyron, then they are missing out. A car that produces just over 1,000 HP, has 10 radiators, and can go from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds with a top speed of 253 MPH. Yes, I said 253 MPH! The list price, according to the man in the video, is approximately 850.000 pounds or $1,697,624.31 at current exchange rates. This car is AMAZING! Also, when you go to their website http://www.bugatti-configurato....html , the only options that you have when building are the colors of the interion/exterior, stone chip guards and 3 different types of seats.I call this, my LOTTERY CAR. As that I would only beable to afford it AFTER I won the lottery!Enjoy!Heres the link to the video. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/...yron/

Yeah, that's about the sickest thing on the roads anymore... I saw the Youtube spot on it where a guy drove it up past 210mph... It's just crazy... at over 200 the tires will last like 500mi and it'll gulp a tank of gas in 30min or something like that... It has 2 keys, one gives you ~500hp the other gives the 1000hp to you... Crazy

This car has been out for a little while now. A lot of people critique it for being ugly. But it's not designed to look like an S500, it's built for speed. When you put in the second key for speed mode, the huge spoiler pops up in back and the car actually lowers itself and has a vacuum system that basically sucks it to the road for traction. Complete with a W16 Quad-turbo setup. They took two W8 engines and basically put them together. P.S. - the W is a volkswagen design.

I know it's been out for a little while. But it's nice to stir up interest about such a UBER car. This car is THE speed freaks fantasy car. And just imagine, the wing on this car actually serves a purpose! Unlike all those posers that drill a few holes in their trunk lid and the bolt on some god-awful ugly wing-like thing in there that there is no way that it could help them! Oh well, it is their money to waste! And about wings,I do like the top spoiler on the Vibe. It actually fits it well and looks pretty good. I hope to get one here soon, if possible.

I think this car looks awsome. I have always liked it from the moment I first read about it. And even though that is the list price, they are usually ALOt more expensive. Just like the Ford GT, it lists on the site at only like $150,000... but if you go to a dealer to buy it you end up paying like $300K.

I agree. Even with the list price at $1.7 million, you probably cant touch one for under $2 million.

That spoiler creates 770lbs of downforce. Imagine that on the back of your hatch, ouch. Not to mention when braking from 250-0 it takes only 10 seconds! The spoiler tilts and creates .5g of deceleration. The driver can let go of the wheel and the car will still brake in a straight line!Oh and in order to go to Top Speed Mode, the car needs to be stopped, the key inserted, and the car does a check on itself and the driver apparently to make sure all is good to go fast!go to wikipedia, it's a sick article!

Actually, in order to reach its top speed, the spoiler is lowered, to become more streamlined.
