Short Ram Air temp

Post by Digger »

Since I got my scanguage which measures air intake temp I see that the air entering the short ram is 3 deg. F higher than the outside air. it was 33 this AM and the air temp was 36.

I got the scangauge II and a cold air intake. I normally get temps about 1 to 3 degrees warmer than what the outside temp is.Sounds good though, doesn't it!

thats because short ram draws in warm air trapped under the hood while cold air intakes usually draw air from in front of the engine.

A couple of degrees is no big deal and the faster that you're rolling, the closer they'll be. I've always though that the biggest advantage of a CAI is that the pipe could be tuned for better midrange performance but I suspected they wouldn't do more than a properly designed short ram at high RPM. After all, you're rolling pretty good in any gear at high RPM.

The difference should higher in the winter when there's a larger contrast between engine and ambient temp. Where did those #s come from?

Slow stop and go trafic or long lights it will rise but for the most part I see only a few deg above ambient
