Canadian Vibe - What did you pay ?

Post by gmvibe »

Hi Everyone. I am a week away from ordering a Vibe with the power package, safety package and alloy wheels and was wondering what kind od negotiating room there is. I have heard many sucessfull purchases at 4 to 5% over factory invoice. But I do not know the factory invoice. What has everyone paid for their car? Thanks

I got a base Vibe with power package & alloys...paid full list at $21,900. I DID NOT pay any air tax(allready in price but some dealers try to double ding ya on it) tire tax or the BS doc. fee. They gave me a good $$$ for my trade plus I had $1500 on my GM visa that I also used. Great vehicle, good on fuel(not as good as window sticker) but could use 10-15 more hp.

I got a $300 discount, but by the time the Vibe was ready (13 weeks later), the increased--and I did not have to pay it! Also, I got a six speakers radio, 200W, at no cost. So, the difference between the new MSRP and the price I paid was about $1,500. Plus, I got $3,650 off thanks to my GM VISA earnings. A good deal, I think!

I dealt with three seperate dealerships with this issue and none of them were willing to move at all. When you have to wait 14 weeks for a car, chances are that lots of people want that car. My Vibe is listed at about $1000 more on the GM website than what I paid. I'm guessing this is due to my car being produced before a price increase. If you are not willing to wait the 14 weeks, you should have your dealer shop around for you. A dealership in Edmonton was able to acquire exactly what we wanted (Black Monotone, Power, Sport) in only a few days from a dealer in Prince Rupert, and we paid less than we would have had we ordered it. Just a suggestion.

The dealers around here are in collusion. Shaw would not give me even $100 off for a cash purchase. I finally wangled $740 off at another dealier (slimey bums) and will apply my $3K+ off from the GM visa when the car arrives. Funny thing, the Shaw salesman called us later and asked if we were still in the market... when we told him what we'd managed, he blurted out, "they're not supposed to give discounts!". Not overly impressed with dealers or GM... Hope the car is as good as I think it will be!!!All in I'm just under 20K for a black base model with power and mags including all taxes, fpdi and gst.

Ordered last week my Satellite VIBE, expecting delivery by Jan-Feb !!! as told by dealer. But !!! can`t apply all my GM VISA earnings (over $2000) because GM rules changes by Jan 1st ( max allowed $1500 ). Does anyone else have any agreement to change this. Dealer says only 8% of production is for Canadians. We have to wait and pay more than US residents (and they have $500 rebate program by this time - lucky guys) Well, I'm still waiting and hope that the car coming before jan 1st... anyway!

Hey there SCTMDepends on how old your card is. My card was several years old (5? I forget) thus the original agreement allowed me to use the entire amount of savings HOWEVER, since this year, I've been loosing about $50/month as the first months' savings disappear... they're trying to phase the old cards out. If your card is old, you should be able to use the whole amount if it's new, the GM card schedule shows that you can only use $1500 for the class of car in which the Vibe is placed.I'd suggest calling GM customer service (in the phone book 1800 number) as they were very helpfull to me. You're dealer is not always out for YOUR best interest so, if you're dealing the best idea is to not even tell them you have a GM card until you've settled on a price... it does not come out of the dealers pocked so you're not being dishonest either... GM covers the 'discount' amount you use.Good luck!

Thanks ChrisI've already wrote to GM about that, awaiting for Email reply. My card is as old as yours (over 5) but as the dealer said, new rules apply beginning Jan 1st... and they can't get my max.earnings if my VIBE comes over this date ( rebate - applicable on delivery date only !!!) THEY make the rules and WE, VIBE lovers are paying for that! Will see on GM reply Email, and let you know. Tks againps. You should get one like us Fritzburg but 5% saving will change to 3% saving by Jan 1st... and max.allowed will also change, Sorry!

Well, you already know that for VIBE the maximum applicable is (or will be after Jan 1st) $1500. For other GM products there is the same or more to get on credit GM Visa. Just have a look at GM site GMCANADA.COM and click on GM card. More info on this over there and you can apply on line to get that card.

I paid only $16,000 for a loaded, AWD vibe, black monotone. It retails at $22,600, but I had $5000 in GM visa dollars and my Grandfather worked for GM and he gets discounts for his family on all the GM cars. So, i saved about $6,600.

SCTM, here's a thought... something I'm trying to do to avoid loosing too many more $$$.Your dealer/GM won't let you purchase something that does not exist HOWEVER, as soon as they start building your car, they will have the VIN #. You can now technically purchase it. I'm paying cash for my car so I'm attempting to purchase the thing as soon as the VIN's available and thus redeem my points at that time too. You MAY be albe to do the same thing? I don't know.I strongly suggest telephoning GM as they were exceptionally helpful to me every time I called. Polite and had all the right information about my specific card and what I was able to do with it. Good luck!

Well, after talking to a few dealers (around Ontario), they all said the same thing... no deals. We paid full sticker (I can hardly believe I did that!). Yippee... I got them to include the rear cargo mat! Hahaha. Oh well. I still LOVE the car, and would pay full price again.

After a long period of research for a wagon under $30,000 CDN it came down to Vibe or Matrix. Besause the Vibe was assembled atNummi I picked the Vibe. The Nummi plant was rated higher in 2001 by J D Powers than Toyota's plant in Cambridge . I called a local GM dealer in Sudbury Ontario, who I have been dealing for 8 years, and they said that they have one GT comming in a week. The price was $27, 660 Firm plus taxes, no deals. I whinnnnned and got free flaps.

[QUOTE]Did you end up ordering from Condie's? Ah, how I miss Kingston. QUOTE]Yes and no. Back in March, I told them exactly what I wanted, and they ordered one meeting my specs, but I did not give them a down payment... therefore, I was not commited. After waiting 13 weeks, it was still not scheduled for production, and we also expected a 4-week shipping delay after that. So, I did internet searches of all the dealerships in Ontario, and found one that I wanted in Toronto (Fisher Pontiac). So, I bought it over the phone, in about 5 minutes, then hubby & I drove up a few days later to pick it up.That was 7 weeks ago, and Condie's JUST got our vibe in last week! So it took another 6 weeks (19 altogether). I pined yesterday, when I saw it on their lot. It was satellite (our first choice), and it has 5-speed, safety, power, & sport packages. The one we got is salsa (third choice -- after white, but we love it now), and it does not have the safety package. Oh well... that made it cheaper!So... if anyone is looking for a satellite/slate 5-speed with all 3 packages, there's one here on the lot in Kingston!

Paid full invoice price from the GM website. Ours was a factory order with very few options so I doubt any dealer would move much. There is much more room for them if you get a fully loaded GT or AWD with Navigation system etc.Did negotiate the finance rate to 2.9% though.Offered very fair trade-in.Also had $3200 GM Visa dollars ANDif you graduated from a college or university within the last couple years, ask about the $1000 new grad rebate. We got that one too.good luck.

Ordered March 17Was delivered July 27Got it from Turpin PontiacThe service was just fine (as car dealers go), they did what they could to keep me informed of delivery dates etc. (like, advanced VIN#, when it was built, when it was loaded for shipment etc.) Unfortunately, they can not control how many vVibes are allocated to Ottawa or Canada.Well worth the wait though. Sporty, fun, practical and easy on gas!If you can use your GM points and if applicable, don't forget the "New Grad Discount", its a free $1000 if you qualify!

Sorry for the delay, but I just saw your message today.I'm not certain about any discounts, but I'm able to give you some exact numbers.I factory ordered my Vibe on June 22, for delivery on August 28. Actually, it arrived at the dealership in early August (prior to the 9th). I'm picking it up on August 29th.The sale price for my AWD (no options, as the Canadian AWD contains just about everything I want), including 2 dealer-installed accessories (4 mud flaps and side window deflectors), is C$25 705. Freight is C$845, "Fees" are C$424, GST is C$1888, Ontario PST is C$2158, and licence transfer fee is C$10. The total is C$31 030.However, I had about C$3375 of GM Visa credits built up, so that served as a bit of a downpayment. GMAC financing is 4.9%.I didn't want a moon roof, security system, alloy wheels, fancy sound system or DVD based GPS system. I think that those are the only options from which I could choose.

I had a very interesting experience which I've talked about in parts in a few different threads (apologies if you've read parts of them before). Basically, I had ordered an Abyss monotone AWD on March 15. When it arrived at my dealership exactly 200 days later (6.5 months) and I wanted to talk price (nothing extreme, just knock off a few fees and throw in the rear cargo mat and cargo net system for free) my salesperson was such a jerk I just walked right out of there. MSRP for what I ordered was $27,900CDN.I ended up walking into another dealership the next day, and they had just received an Abyss monotone GT. Now, when I ordered the AWD, I didn't know how to drive standard. About 5 weeks ago, my father gave me lessons in his Miata convertible and then left it with me for 3 weeks when he went on holidays. I got absolutely hooked on the manual transmission (and the speed, of course ), so I wasn't really excited about picking up my AWD even with the wait. So combine the experience with the salesperson and my new desire for a manual, the GT was a good fit.I had some leverage with the new dealership because I was obviously ready to pay for the AWD and it was on hold for me. I told the salesperson that I would like a GT and I was ready to buy a car RIGHT NOW, I had a cheque in my hand ready to go, but I was not going to pay MSRP. If they wanted to sell a car that day, they could make a deal with me. If not, I'd walk over to the next dealship and they could have my business. To shorten up this epic, the MSRP was $29,800 on the GT (6-CD changer, 17" alumninums adn security system for options as well as the monotone exterior). Of course, there would have been a multitude of fees on top (legal for $200? please, I'm a lawyer and know better than THAT). I paid $29,000 plus only the AC and tire tax ($120) for a total of $29,120, plus GST. With the other fees knocked off, I think I saved about $1000CDN from what I would have paid if I didn't negotiate. It's terrible that the supply is so short that you have to order from the factory in order to get what you want, and then you're stuck with MSRP. I was very fortunate to happen upon a Vibe that was pretty much exactly what I wanted, and then I could use my factory-ordered unit as leverage. If you check carcostcanada.com, you can see that the dealers in Canada aren't getting a huge markup on the Vibes, but the MSRP looks to be around 9-10% profit - that's a little high, and doesn't include any possible factory-dealer incentives that you or I know nothing about. They don't have a lot of incentive to get down to the much more reasonable 3-5% range when so many people are willing to pay MSRP (so stop it, all of you! ).I'd go with the strategy of playing different dealers off each other as much as possible - tell them all that you're talking to everyone, and the first salesperson that makes a reasonable deal will get to place your order. Of course, this is only possible if you're in a bigger city. And don't make the mistake I did - have the price negotiated down to the last nickel before you plunk down the $500 deposit if you're ordering from the factory - know exactly what "extra charges" the dealer is going to try to put on after the fact.A great resource for those of you like me who are inexperienced or nervous about negotiating: try http://www.carbuyingtips.com/ I found it extremely helpful.Other than that, my dealer had floor mats in there for me without even having to discuss it - a nice, albeit small touch. Now, after all that, I picked up my beautiful Vibe last night - no pics yet because it was raining and now it's dirty but you bet I'll put some up soon. Good luck to all my fellow Canucks out there!

Congrats on your new Abyss GT Other than that, my dealer had floor mats in there for me without even having to discuss it - a nice, albeit small touch. In the U.S., the GT I bought came standard with factory floor mats. I also got the vinyl mats which looks really nice and will keep the carpet dry and clean. I put them right on top of the floor mats.

Has anyone been able to get the General Motors Employee Discount while dealing for a VIBE? The dealer I went to wouldn't allow me to use my discount. This discount is part of my earned compensation package. Not much wiggle room on these vehicles.

Hello from the Banana Republic of Canada. So U.S. GM employees get the (earned and bargained for) employee discount, and us peeons here in Canada don't? What up with that? Not to mention it takes 6 months to get a Vibe up here. To say the least, I'm a little pissed. Don't even suggest that we can't use GM credit card money if you have an employee discount. That's the ultimate insult. Please understand, this employee discount is part of our employee compensation (pay) package. We shouldn't ever be penalized for it. All other rebates and programs should always still apply. THE DEALER STILL GETS THEIR MONEY. The employer (GM) sends them a sizable cheque after the delivery is complete. Don't ever let the dickhead salesman make you feel like he's doing you a favour by 'allowing' you your discount. You're doing him the favour. This discount was bargained for in bilateral negotiations as part of our pay. If GM wants to make things difficult to use the discount, we should give it up and accept an hourly pay increse in place of the discount. If any dealer tries to screw you out of your discount, by pocketing rebates or disallowing any other incentive, REPORT THEM to General Motors head office. You are entitled to it!
