Can someone explain step by step how to change the cabin air filter?

It is pretty easy, I did mine about 2 weeks ago. You have to open your glove box and take out the screw on the right side of the open glove box that holds it open. Then pull out the glove box.After that pull off the plast cover that will be right in that newly opened space and the filter is right there. Gently remove because their may be a lot of dirt and dust accumulated on it. I know mine was pretty dirty after 18 months. The most straightforward thing is to remove that screw before you take the glove box off, but you can just reach in and pull the damper assembly off the post it attaches to in the dash, and leave it screwed on to the glove box. I usually do the latter, but have done the former.Not knowing what you did, can't say if you broke something or not.

This reminds me... I should probably put a new filter in mine. I've been running without it for 2 months now. I'll get it... After the Tein S-Techs.

I think I ended up doing the latter method.

My 05 doesn't have a screw, or if it does I don't need to remove it. I haven't changed the cabing filter, only have 6,000 miles, but have sent many wires back there. I open the glove box, pull up and out on it, then pull the left side out, then tilt the assembly down and pull the back end of the damper at the right side of the glove box. The damper and glovebox are flexible enough to bend things to see what you are doing or feel what is going on behind the glove box.
