play a audio dvd?

Post by 21Rouge »

I will soon come into possession of some DVDs which contain hundreds of mp3 audio files. I know nothing about stereo 'stuff' so I am wondering is there car stereo equipment that will play such a DVD? The current OEM '05 Vibe CD player wont play mp3 files. Is it possible to convert these mp3s to wma files and burn them to a CD?Any other sugggestions?

There are probably some higher-end multimedia systems that will play DVD's of mp3's, but not that many. There is no need to conver to WMA before burning to a CD. Just use CD burning software to burn 'Music CDs'.

The Vibe's OEM CD player doesn't play WMA either. There's no reason to convert from one unplayable format to another when you can go straight from MP3 to normal CD Audio. And yes, the advantage of using a DVD in this particular case is just that it holds more. The term 'Audio DVD' is a bit misleading though, because for a period of time, there were home systems that would play DVD Audio which was standard audio at a higher bitrate than normal CDs.

Yeah you would need a pc with burning software like Nero burning rom to pull the mp3's you wanted then burn to standard cd-r in a audio cd format. I have seen some aftermarket head units that play dvd-r mp3 music discs.

I loves my DVD-A discs I have even with having a crummy system at home, *drool!* If I could have something like that in the car, man! It sounds so fricken good compared to the regular CD copies of the same albums!

So just to confim: It is easy to take mp3 files and burn them to a standard cd-r which will play on our 05 OEM cd player in the Vibe?

If you've got the right software on your PC, it's relatively easy. Most of the PCs I've bought in the past few years have an application like those produced by RoxioFirst, you put the disc into the PC and "rip" the tracks (songs) to your hard drive. Then you put a blank CD in and use the program to drag and drop your tracks into a window, in the order you want the songs to play. Finally, you click on the "burn" button (or whatever it's called in your program) and wait for the computer to do its thing.By the way, if your program has a checkbox marked "Finalize CD," I'd highly recommend checking it. I seem to have less problems playing the CD in older players when I do that.

If you actually burn it to a CD as described - by setting up an audio CD project and not simply copying the files to a CD - the software on your computer should convert it to the correct format as it burns the CD. You might just want to give it a shot...all you stand to lose is a blank CD.
