05 Accessory Drive Belt R/R

Post by Mach2 »

35,400 miles on the 05 Vibe and was wondering about the scheduled R/R mileage for the Alternator/Air Cond Accessory Belt. I was looking at it and didn't see the tensioner pulley where you could loosen and remove the belt by loosening the pulley. Is R/R'ing this belt a home done deal or is it a Dealer only job?

I did mine at 100K miles. Helps to have small hands, which I don't.there's some info at http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=16476

I've swapped mine about 4 times trying to get the right configuration with the aftermarket pulleys and s/c.The best way to do it is to remove the right frnt tire and splash shield in the wheel well. You'll be able to reach all the pulleys then.

Thanks too for the tips Lancer. I have a stock Vibe, not a GT and am thinking about preventative maintenance.

I'll stay with the stock belt to 50,000 miles, then change it. I'll get one now and keep it in the car until then, just in case.

I just changed the accessory belt at 82K+ miles w/ a Dayco Rib (Part #5060725) belt. I didn't take off the RF tire, but was able to put an old wire hangar to good use in pulling up the belt to loop it around the tensioner pulley. That said, I doubt that I could have done it without an extra set of hands to hold the belt in place while threading it on the other pulleys. Good to go.
