last night i was at top of a hill. i manged to stall the car. but instead of starting the car up. since there was no one around. i put the car in reverse, and let it roll, poped the clutch and VROOM!!. started right up. i thought the days of push starting where long gone.
As long as the ignition is on you should be able to bump start just about anything, I used to to this to my Dad's Ranger all the time.

I'll try it soon and let you know. You don't press the gas pedal when starting the car so the throttle is closed anyways. The DBW should not be a problem but it's an interesting thought.
Quote, originally posted by Emerica13 »Pardon moi for my lack of knowledge, but what exactly is push starting and how do you do it? Turn the key to the on position, put the car in neutral and get a push or start rolling down hill. When you are going about 5mph or so, push in the clutch, put it in 2nd gear and pop the clutch out and turn the engine over a couple of times, push the clutch in again and rev it up. If it didn't start, pop the clutch again. Don't leave the clutch engaged if the engine does not start or you'll lose all your rolling momentum and have to try again.

I only had to do it twice though. Yeah, yeah, you think I would learn after doing it once that I should have it replaced.

I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!
once had a 89 lebaron that died on me on a major street. had to push it out of the way. once i got it out of the way, it started. next day i went straight to the dealership. traded it. luckily the dealer wasn;'t aware of it's crappy engine.now that i think about it, i think the MAF was bad. easy fix.
Quote, originally posted by Sunny »Well, I bump started my '06 today and it started instantly. The battery was fully charged though so it does not answer that DBW question. Thanks for trying and posting. I'm beginning to think it would be okay with DBW, since it doesn't require throttle to start. Once the engine turns over, the alternator will be supplying power.

I think the answer is yes, but not sure....I'm just taking a guess, but on older, carb'ed, mechanical fuel pump, points equipped cars yes, but when we're talking electric fuel pumps, fuel injectors, mass air flow sensors, oxygen sensors, electronic ignitions is it possible?
You can start today's vehicles with bump starts as long as there is full electrical power... In the days of no computers and carburettors, a vehicle could be started without battery power... Throttle by wire has no effect on bumps again as long as there is electircal power it will start as the throttle knows there is power going to it.
as long as you have the ignition switch on "on". and it's a stick. you should be able to start up. you roll. when you roll you rotate your driveshaft. engage gear. poping the clutch while in momentum will cause you engine to rotate. engine rotating, alternator rotating. this will provide elctricity.so no batery is required.
