I do not have power windows, so I do not think I am at risk. My understanding, from
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=18049 and other threads is that there is a known problem with the little metal piece that keeps the door from opening too far, that it can get in the way of the window mechanism somehow. A diagram would help me out a lot to understand the nature of the problem. Anyway, it may be a freak occurence of it actually causing glass breakage, or it could be a design flaw that makes it significantly more prone to occur. If there really is a TSB out on the problem, then that implies that GM knows about the problem and the consequences. I can see where having the windows explode could be a safety issue, by the nature of it the driver has at most only one hand on the wheel at the time. I do not know if the design of the affected parts is the same on Matrix, I don't remember hearing of Matrix owners with similar problems, but I haven't gone looking.A recall is bad advertising, various brand haters are quick to point out whenever a brand they dislike issues a recall, but I imagine having a safety issue and being forced by the government to issue a recall is worse. Tough call, glad it's not my job to decide. It would be good if someone could get and post the full TSB on the problem. Would be interesting to know how many have actually had glass breakage fromt he problem, I do not think counting genvibers is a good way. Could be everyone that has ever had it happen has posted on it on genvibe, could be for every one who posted about it here there are 100 others who are not genvibers who've had the problem. August 2005 marked 200,000 new Vibes sold, so there are a lot of them out there we never hear about. If anyone with the problem does post about it on the nhtsa complaints site at
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/c...plain/ be sure to mention
http://forums.genvibe.com in the beginning of the summary so that other vibers will hear about us I looked on that site at current complaints, and only saw one record for exploding glass, the person was driving at the time, and was cut after stopping to remove glass frominside their shirt. As far as crybabies go, I think we are pretty reasonable, compared to some of the complaints, such as :Quote »Make : PONTIAC Model : VIBE Year : 2005 Manufacturer : GENERAL MOTORS CORP. Crash : No Fire : No Number of Injuries: 0 ODI ID Number : 10127866 Number of Deaths: 0 Date of Failure: April 19, 2005 VIN : 5Y2SL63855Z... Component: VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR Summary: WE BOUGHT A NEW PONTIAC VIBE IN APRIL. ON A TRIP TOCLEVELAND WE FOUND OUT IT IS NOT SAFE. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH VISIBILITY IN THE REAR BECAUSE OF A POOR DESIGN. I HAD TO AVOID 4 POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS. THE DRIVER CANNOT SEE OTHERS APPROACHING IN ATHER LANES AT HIGH SPEEDS. I COMPLAINED TO GM, BUT THEY HAVE IGNORED ME. I ALSO COMPLAINED TO YOU IN APRIL. HAS ANYTHING BEED DONE? Isn't that what test drives are for?
