I'm fine. Drove home in a rental with my glove box pulled out and full of my goodies. In fact, I pulled out my Unichip in 5 min. between the cops and tow truck. I've got it at a good shop and we'll see if it's a write off but I suspect they'll want to fix it. Get this, neither my side nor front air bag went off. I don't get too upset over this stuff. It's only a car and I'm old enough to put this in perspective. The guy just spaced, apologized and told the cops he ran the light. I also got a witness. How do like my wheels, Not bad for 16s eh? 7.5 wide with 225/50s. Used to ride great and handle better.

Glad you're okay...that's the most important part. New Vibes can be gotten but people are hard to replace.

Thanks, If I have to replace it, it will be a used 03,04 GT (I'll have do the suspension again with TRD/ progress and I'd worry about the clutch) or a used Mazda 6 wagon 3.0 5psd if I can find one. I can't believe how much the Mazda depreciates in one year. It would be about the same price as a used Mazda3.

Glad your not hurt. Dang that front end looks bad I think that might be totalled. I was reading CR and they said mazda's depreciate fast but its great for used car buyers

Glad to see your alright from this..damn sorry to see that happen to yet another vibe. I know how ya feel. I beleive that would be totaled with that much damage, any major frontal damage most insurance will consider them a total loss and your front end is completely done for.

How did it all hit? Did he basically swipe your front end off? Like a t-bone, but just the tip of the car?Unless it was a direct front-on collision, I wouldn't be surprised the airbags didn't go off..I think the choice between total and fix depends on that crash-bar. If it's not perfectly straight, that's a lot they'd have to fix, I think. Plus whether or not the engine mounts held in place.On the surface, it's probably fixable. But without really looking at it close..hard to say..

I suspect it will get fixed because the expense of airbag replacement wont be in the mix though my car does need a couple of frame rails, the radiator is up against the intake manifold and the impact bar has moved quite a bit. He hit me just in front of the wheel at an angle slightly towards my car. It was an older Geo prism that probably gave its driver a bigger jolt than I got because older cars don't colapse as much. His right front wheel was bent with panel damage on that side. He looked barely damaged. He was doing 30 and I was doing about 10. The car next to me in the right lane and I started into the intersection together after cross traffis had stopped. The guy in the lane next to me stopped just before impact and as I nosed out from behind him, I got slammed. I managed to hit the brakes but obviously too late. The shop looked at it and said maybe 8k to fix without openning the hood (stuck), so who knows but at that # I think, they'll fix it. The front wheels look pretty much where they belong but I suspect they're not. As long as it drives like it used to, I'm good but I'll have to keep it a while as a damage report will hurt the resale value. It never matters whos fault it is, accidents cost everbody some money. By the way, I got a base Vibe auto as a rental. I felt like I couldn't get out of my own way when I first got it but now that I'm used to it, it's a fine daily driver and not quite as pokey as I first thought. My car never had rattles like this one and the softer shocks don't do much towards impact harshness and it's a bit woolly in turns. Limits are fine and the motor's smoother and quiter than my GT on the highway. Fine commuter but the auto is definitely not very racey. A stick and suspension upgrade would help a lot.

glad you're ok...about the same damage i had in my VW and they were saying $11,000 CDN (about 8 or 9 USD) for a 1998 golf. so 8k is about there.it's nice that they put a blanket over the vibe to keep it warm....

How's it work? If the damage doesn't outvalue the car they'll fix it?I'd wait until they get under the hood and really look at it.. but at this point, definitely leaning toward repair...

I haven't had that discussion yet but I think the cut off is about 75% to 80% of value which is about $11k in damage. I really don't know which I would prefer. a total or repair. I really like my car in its color combo and in many other ways but I don't want an 05 GT. Finding a used one in this color with a good clutch would be tough and I'd have to spend about $500 on one after I bought it to make it what I want and plan on a clutch replacement in the near future. Like I said, I think I'll let them fix it or get a used Mazda 6 wagon(also not easy to find sticks) if they don't. I've had a few Mazda's over the years and they all were nice drivers cars.

I would still have to decide which wheels to leave with the car. They won't buy it incomplete. If it happens, which do you think's worth more? The aftermarket wheels with 2/3 re750s 225/50 or the stock aluminiums with almost new Goodyear Assurance ComforTred 205/55.
