No dash removal necessary.-Pull the entire shroud off the instrument cluster.-Remove the top/center screw.-Undo the 2 clips on the bottom of the cluster.-Pull the cluster out, and unclip the 2 wire harnesses.-Unscrew the rear cluster cover.-You'll see the piezo electric buzzer encased in a big black cylinder.-Pry it off.Attached is a pic, courtesy of WorkinMatrix @ matrixowners.com

It's built into the gauge cluster itself, I do believe. Sounds like you have the same idea I once had. That horrid cheapo radio shack piezo element buzzer thingy has to go! I don't know what those guys were thinking when they designed that. Gimme chimes, dang it! --EDIT-- That above post snuck in while I was coming up with this one... Has anyone successfully installed a different buzzer, such as one that doesn't suck, for instance? Inquiring minds want to know, that damn thing sucks!

Cool. I'm wondering how that buzzer works - we have 3 different modes basically - the fast beeping for the key, the slower for the seat belt and the steady beep for the lights on warning... Not sure if that is all done in the buzzer assembly itself, or if that is done somewhere else which varies the signal gonig into the buzzer.Definitely would be interesting to see this work out. If it works, I need to find the chime thingy out of a wrecked Hyundai... I don't know why, but that mechanical diiiiing diiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnngg sound is just cool to me. (removed)!

Is that also the Reverse beeper? I wish they would have mounted that one outside the car. LOL

Yep, I'd say the annoying beep you six speeders have probably comes from the same place. I can't remember what car was being reviewed or where, but I do remember this being said: "It beeps like a forklift when in reverse."

lol! Maybe we'll find a successful mod to eliminate the dump truck action.

why would you guys want to remove that beeper. if it's beeping, something is wrong. once it's fixed, it goes away. if you guys don't like wearing belts... shame on you.

i am not removing, i am replacing with something that doesnt hurt my brain.CP - i am 95% sure teh piezo is not controlling the three beep segments. i cant remember where, but i saw the timing algorythm that put it in teh three timed beep modes, and i dont think that is contained within the little black thing.I'll need to doublecheck that.

I know I'm not interested in going around and defeating safety features... Instead, I just think that dumping the "piezo crap" buzzer in favor of something a little more pleasant sounding would be a nice project...
