I think I would just wait until I could afford the real thing rather that try something like that. Just my $0.02.

Wow nelly, reading this brings up a question. The MAF sensor has to go in a certain way!? I have had a CEL since I installed my Injen CAI and never realized this was a possibile fault. I assumed it was in right, but the openining is shaved in a square and the MAF is in a triangular plastic piece, meaning it could go either way! What is the correct way for it to be facing?

A couple of years ago a guy made one with metal gas furnace pipes. I think it was on Genvibe. It looked REALLY bad but it may have worked a little. For the price of all the plastic fittings, clamps, glue and the time involved, you could buy a Cosmo.

I knew someone on the http://www.ZR2.com forums who made his own CAI with PVC pipe. Did fine for him..

damronjr, So the wires face the firewall. Polo, Locating the MAF isn't guess work. You'll likely make less power and run either lean or rich. not good for the motor. Is it worth the risk and time for 5 or 6 HP if you happen get it right? You will still make less power below 3K. If you want it to sound cool, just pull the stuff in front of the air box.
Vibe GT, TRD springs, Progress bar, STB, Unichip, Borbet E 16x7.5, 225/50 Bridgestone RE750, beefed up grounds and battery bypass capacitors(had em laying around)
