Software to put records on CD?

Post by ragingfish »

Yes, Im talking LP's! Vinyl! Frisbees! Whatever you call them.My mom is a librarian and asked me to convert two records to CD. I figure easy. Just record the record to the PC then burn the disc. No big.Question is -- does anyone know a software program I can use to record a whole side of a record without overflowing memory (i.e. sound recorder would crap out after 1 or 2 songs). Only requirements: minimal interaction from me (so I can other stuff while it records) and must be FREE (or under $15)!!!Thanks!

Mike,What software do you use to burn your CDs?? I know the Roxio stuff has a program with it that will do what you need. I believe that Nero does as well, but don't hold me to it.... :-)Vern

I use goldwave for that kind of stuff, you can record a whole side and then cut it into tracks later

I was told that if you get a cable with 2 rca plugs at 1 end and the plug for your mic jack (plugged in your output on your stereo of course) you can just save the audio signal as a wave file then just convert it to whatever you want to when you burn it.Never tried it though.

I am using an RCA to standard headphone plug to get the sound into the PC. I then use Roxio Spin Doctor (part of ECDC) to record it. It's the breaking up and editing I'm not finding the software capable of doing...I'll try Goldwave, thanks Joat!

I know my grandpa uses the Spin Dr. program to record both his vinyl collection and his reel to reel tapes..... Oh well.... I will have to tell him about the Goldwave too.

Yeah, ECDC comes with a sound editor, but it vomits any time I try to take a large file and cut it up...plus it's completely stripped of any half-decent features.
