warm up period

Is anyone having problems with the Vibe staying in second gear for a long time before it shifts when it is cold?

Never had that problem. I would suggest waiting for your car to warm up before you drive it.Inder

Everything runs more harshly when it's cold. My engine is louder, my tranny is more notchy, etc. As said, give the engine a few minutes to warm up if you can, otherwise, sounds normal

It should be staying in 3rd gear until the car warms up. Once the car gets close to operating temperature it will shift into fourth. The transmission is programed that way so the car warms up properly and you will not harm anything by driving it cold.

the vibes computer is set to have the engine rev at a lower rpm until it warms to the proper temp, what your experiencing is a safety mechinism in place to protect from abnormal engine stress....just give it a few to warm up....or, if youre in a really cold climate, i would recommend getting the block heater, for about 50$ installed its a decent purchase.

I wish I had that heater . It come in handy so well right now.

I havent noticed anything weird in second, but occassionaly it will hesitate going from 3rd to 4th(overdrive)

I've talked to other Vibe owners at work and they don't have this problem. I also drove a new one at 3 degrees and it shifted right through the gears. Is it possible for some to do it and not others?

Did you buy your Vibe new or used? If used, then the ECU probably got used to the way the previous owner used to drive the car. If it's new, try to discount the battery for like 10 minutes and hook it back up and the ECU should be reset. Once you do this, the car will gradually start learning the way you drive.
