It's the low beam at 80% power.

Definitely low beam... When my $ilver 's died, I still had high beams but no lows, and no DRL's.

Shouldn't the DRL be high beam at 30%?

I'd prefer that my hi-beams be the drl's too because they're more visible during the daytime than the lo-beams due to their higher projection.I've been studying wiring schematics of the lighting system, but haven't yet been able to figure out if switching drl's to the hi's is possible.

Not without modifying the DRL control box, probably. And DRLs should never be high-beams, due to the projection. Even at 30%, it stands to shine in the eyes of other drivers, which would never fly with the D.O.T.

I recall when DRL first came out (late 90s) it was the high beam @ 30%. Even today, other Toyota products such as Camry is at high beam @ (about) 30% DRL.

The 98-99 S-10 used the highbeam for DRLS at redused power the recalled them to switch it to the Low Beam due to blinding others was the complaint.

A lot of cars, lately, are implementing a 3rd bulb that is solely a DRL bulb...Smart move IMHO!

The third bulb is a good idea... Now, when the implement DRL's into the turn signals up front, then we have a problem... They burn out pretty quick, so you'll lose your turn signal.

It's not a new thing..I meant a third bulb completely independent of anything else, which serves no purpose other than DRL. Was not referencing the ambers. You see it on trucks a lot, but now I'm seeing Camrys with it too...Note here: 4 bulbsAmberLowHighDRL
