Re: Recommended strut kits

zbyers ... Good idea! I've looked for Matrix parts, but never on Rock Auto. With regard to the sway bar links, I made the new ones as tight as I possibly could, with fairly long wrenches, but was unable to get a torque wrench in there. I'll give that another try. It looks like it should be 74 Nm (54...

Re: Recommended strut kits

Thanks Jolt ... Given all you've said I think I'm going to go with OEM parts and then assemble the struts. Now I have to figure out which are the right parts and springs. With regard to Rock Auto, I like them and actually got the current struts from them, but I'm way beyond their return date, since ...

Re: Recommended strut kits

Bummer about the rear shocks. I know that really limits the choices you have. With mine I have to tear mine apart anyway, since I haven't found anybody that makes the kit for AWD. On the clunking, mine didn't make any noise at all, until I put in the struts, which leads me to believe that it's the s...

Re: Recommended strut kits

Great summary ... It's frustrating that I had virtually the same problems with the MOOG assembled struts. I had the folded rubber spring seat (1), the shaft was too long (3) and no beneficial support (4). I did call MOOG, but they said the clunking was not the struts, it was something else in the su...

Re: Recommended strut kits

First of all sorry about your arm and hope you're back to normal soon. FYI, whatever you do, don't get MOOG strut assemblies. I installed a new set of front struts 3 months ago and they've been nothing but trouble. They clunk like crazy and also the rubber spring insulator (between the spring and th...

Re: Rear end humming noise

Sorry for the late reply ... BTW, that's is the right service bulletin. I removed the Viscous Coupling & housing from the front of the differential and replaced the front and back bearings. One of the bearings was a little tight, but it turns out that wasn't causing the noise, since it's still t...

Good idea ... will do. I'll link up with the Dealer that sold me the Viscous Coupling bearings last month, they're pretty close. They also had the best price on the bearings.

2006 AWD Rear Differential replacement with Matrix OK?

I've been doing a lot of searching on the site and it looks like the Matrix Rear Differential is interchangeable with the Vibe. Although, I wanted to make sure, before I buy a new one. These are a few Matix differentials I'm looking at, which have a Toyota part number of 41110-58030. I'm amazed at t...

Re: Rear end humming noise

Update - I rotated the tires and didn't notice any change in the noise. On the test drive I did confirm the noise changes pitch with speed, from a very low pitch at about 15 mph to a slightly higher pitch at 35-40 mph. I also tried to test if it made more noise when turning and I couldn't tell any d...

Nope, but that's a great idea. I'll rotate them today and see if the noise changes.

Re: Rear end humming noise

Pitch should change with speed and load changes on the rear drive train. I wonder if it is something from the fuel tank, or a shield under the car vibrating at that speed. Check your shields under the car and on the exhaust system. Bend them to try and stiffen them. Thanks! I checked the shields an...

Rear end humming noise

I have an AWD 2006 Vibe with 89,000 miles and the last few months it's had a humming noise coming from the rear. I notice it most around 30 mph. Also, it doesn't seem to change pitch with vehicle speed. Based on my reading, mainly on this site, it looks like it could be the following: • Viscous coup...

I've been looking for an add-on oil pressure gage for my 2006 AWD Vibe and have been finding it hard to find. Well I've finished my backup lamp (7440 bulb) experiment and have determined that the PUTCO LED's have a slight edge in brightness over the other 3 bulbs tested.
