Backup / Reverse Lamp experiment

Post by olliesshop »

Well I've finished my backup lamp (7440 bulb) experiment and have determined that the PUTCO LED's have a slight edge in brightness over the other 3 bulbs tested. They're definitely whiter than the regular clear incandescent bulbs, but only a little bit brighter. And at the relatively high price, I'm not sure whether it's really worth it. Here's the bulbs I tried:1. Stock Bulb (21 Watts) - Adequate brightness2. PIAA (Blue/white) 7440 bulb ... http://www.amazon.com/19225-27...MAHL8 ... This bulb was definitely whiter, but did not seem any brighter than the stock bulb.3. Stock Bulb (25 Watts) - Slightly improved brightness, but nothing to write home about.4. PUTCO LEDs ... http://www.google.com/products...wIwBQ# ... I really like the look of them, since they're really bright white and they're definitely brighter than them all.In summary, if you just want brightness and you're on budget. I'd find some 25W clear bulbs for about $7. If you want brightness and the white look then go for the PUTCO leds. That's just my 2 cents ... hope it helps someone.

i actually plan on putting some amber colored superflux leds in them from oznium.com and using them for blinkers when i'm not backing up. Since I tinted my tails, thw turn signals aren't as visible
