Factory Service / Repair manual?

I was wondering what folks thought the best way is to find out information that would normally be found in the service manual? There's obviously a ton of information on this site already (some of which I've found), do you think that would be enough or should buy something like the Mitchells1, Haynes, Chiltons, etc. I haven't spent the hundreds of hours, yet, that many of you have spent on this site to know what's here. So what do you think. BTW, I'm looking from everything such as from regular maintenance to replacing and rebuilding the transmission.Thank You !!!
