Ah yes. Sorry - meant to update. Car sold for $500. The buyer happened to have that AWD tranny needing a car.
Local wrecking yard would offer a lowball figure that appeared MAYBE to be scrap steel value.
Thanks y'all.
If it weren't AWD, I'd probably have replaced the bad transmission. It did that thing where it only would engage forward in 3rd or 4th (doesn't like starting out) and made horrible noises trying reverse. Limped into my driveway several months ago and there it sits. 2004 Vibe AWD - Took battery out f...
I have a 2004 AWD Vibe that don't go no more. Well, it goes forward gently, like it's in 3rd gear permanently or something. So, I'm shopping for used automatic transmission that will drop right in with minimal modification if any. I hesitate to snag a tranny from one of those ebay wrecking yards, 'c...
The strange thing is that it seems ALL my ebay searching results in only FWD transmissions. I have a message in to one of the sellers to verify. Doesn't seem feasible nobody driving an AWD doesn't get in wrecks.
Are there any other Toyotas that use this tranny?
Thanks!
D²
I have to replace the AWD transmission in my 2004 Vibe. No reverse, no low gears, only goes forward in what seems to be high gear. Fluid is brown and smells burned. Ouch! Ebay has several suppliers that offer warranties, but I'd like to expand my search. I'm coming up empty on my specific transmissi...
No, it was a used one. Well, the replacement has arrived... the clutch spins OK, but I need to double-check compatibility. It's an AC Delco instead of Delphi. And it arrived with a hole in the box. During transit, the compressor had punched a hole in the box, so the suction port was a little exposed....
I just bought a used ac compressor for my '04 AWD, and the clutch seems wrong.Holding the compressor in my hand, the pulley should spin freely unless the clutch coil is energized, RIGHT?Well this one is 'draggy', as in it seems partially engaged and makes scraping sounds when I turn the pulley aroun...
Well, crap!I sent this message to the ebay supplier:Thanks for the update - the package arrived Friday afternoon. I went to install it this (hot) afternoon, and found that the clutch is dragging heavily. The thing should rotate freely on good bearings, but it scrapes audibly. My first look at swappin...
Actually ended up ordering a salvaged compressor from a car slightly newer and less used than mine. Ebay store in Texas. Will it cool better since everything's bigger in Texas?
There's a problem with that actuator. I think a search or two will find other threads about it. I think the part was midway between cheap and unreasonable. Luckily I was able to pull my actuator out and 'rebuild' it just by flipping the output gear 180°. Some of the teeth stripped because this th...
Has anyone purchased a used AC compressor from one of the ebay stores? Good/bad experience? Some say limited warranty; haven't read the fine print yet. Don't have the cash for a new or rebuilt unit.Tips anyone?Thanks,D²
I've heard things can get stuck in between the blower vanes. Those may not blow out even with compressed air. You might try getting a really good look with a mirror or by pulling the blower out.
I can see the problem with liquid to the evap canister causing damage.I don't see how this causes the symptom of a gas pump constantly shutting off while you're filling. I've seen this, but the pump next to it didn't do it... meant a bad gas pump or nozzle. How do those auto-shutoff nozzles work, any...
Esteban, please explain the damage you're talking about. Everything up there should be completely fuel proof.I get the impression that there's actually a lot of splash back against the nozzle that causes early shutoff or may be sucking significant amounts of fuel (that I just paid for) back into the...
There was a death rattle today for a few minutes prior to the complete compressor seizure, and I'm holding out some hope there's some way to resurrect it, but ... not really.Since I'm likely looking at replacing things, has anyone installed a system with slightly more capacity? Fresno get's pretty d...
Fish, that's entirely possible. Trouble is now it's even worse. I wasn't going to pay $25 for the part yesterday, and today the places on the way home didn't have the $14 or $11 ones in stock, sooo I was just running it without a filter. Airflow was fantastic! But temperatures were back to barely co...
Holy cripes! The cabin air filter is more dirt & leaves than filter! It would not even come out of its slot without pulling apart. What a mess THAT made! Original, I'd say.
A friend of mine runs an auto repair shop here in town. He gave me a break on an evacuate & recharge. I'm not sure how long he pulled a vacuum, and I didn't hear if he found any leaks. I did hear that he got my left vent blowing at under 40°F and the right vent at about 45°. He thinks there mu...
I just read the user manual's a/c charging instructions the other day, which said something like - charge it until the suction line gets cold.Wouldn't that be overcharged? ... and vary depending on the ambient temperature? I vapor charged my system the other [really hot] day by watching hi-side pres...
Sorry, been out of touch for a while. No it did not fix the problem. In fact, if I close all the vents but the right vent, I thought it would force the cold air that-a-way. Nope. Still hot air coming out of there. Weird.Great diagrams!Oh, I'm looking for my camera...
I'm so relieved to be left with NO EXTRA PARTS!!. I'll post some pics later, but here's what I did:The duct work that snaps onto the top of the evap housing wasn't sealing very well. I jammed some shims under the snap latches to tighten the grip. Seemed to work some.I adjusted the selector cable sli...
Oh boy, I'm into it now... the upper dash is off, and I'm realizing (please tell me I'm wrong) that the duct work does not come out without removing the big steel crossbar. That's question #1.I can see one of the gates opening and closing, and maybe not quite sealing all the way. It makes no sense t...
Hmm. Is there a diagram somewhere of the air handling system in this car? It looks like the mechanical linkages are all correct. The parts look to be connected right, snapped in place, screws tight. I have not pulled the dash, but you can see an awful lot with a flashlight by pulling the control bez...
Anyone know which model years use the Delphi CVC compressors? I have a 2004 and I sure heard a clutch engage, though I didn't hear it cycle, and I did see pressures regulate. I figured the metering device was simply doing its thing... (Tx valve or orifice plate/tube?) It may not be running quite rig...
Most auto parts stores have inexpensive low-side gauges made to charge with the little cans of refrigerant. Without the can attached, they'll function as just the gauge as long as you don't push the charge lever. That will either release refrigerant or suck in air, depending on what the system is do...
I've fixed the temperature cable - it was off by 1/4" or so.I've fixed the recirculation servo - the output gear was stripped.Refrigeration pressures look OK, more or less. There may be some non-condensibles in there. The pressure at rest was slightly higher than it should have been on the R-13...
Seems the Google search on the genvibe site is waaay too powerful. It scoops up every last thing with your search term in it. Is there a way to narrow it down by subforum or date range or ... ? Help! I hate posting questions only to get told, "Uh, listen nube, there a search thingy up in the co...
