I just bought a used ac compressor for my '04 AWD, and the clutch seems wrong.Holding the compressor in my hand, the pulley should spin freely unless the clutch coil is energized, RIGHT?Well this one is 'draggy', as in it seems partially engaged and makes scraping sounds when I turn the pulley around the pump shaft. Turning the hub, the pump turns over OK and seems fine. But if the clutch is only partially disengaging when powered down, the thing will sit there and heat up or something.Comments?ThanksD²PS (reply from the ebay supplier pending before I decide whether to flame him...)
No, it was a used one. Well, the replacement has arrived... the clutch spins OK, but I need to double-check compatibility. It's an AC Delco instead of Delphi. And it arrived with a hole in the box. During transit, the compressor had punched a hole in the box, so the suction port was a little exposed. It was covered in plastic, but not plugged. I'm a little worried about it.I'm not sure how to read the AC Delco vs the Delphi nameplates. What's compatible with what? Equivalent replacement for what? NOT usable for what?My original unit was a Delphi and the side of the ID tag says "9033".The first compressor from this guy (with the draggy clutch) is the same. The second unit is the AC Delco, and the ID tag says "2202".Any idea? Thanks, y'allD²
