Could be the "Oil Control valve Filter" that supplies oil to the variable valve train.The manual states that if you have problems with variable valve(s) or timing check the Oil control valve filter,it costs $13.00 at toyota and about 30 minutes to install,,better than $600.

By the way,,the 2004 base engine does not have an rubber"O" ring it only has a flat metal washer you will see it on the bolt when you remove it.

By the way the filter cost me $13.52Cheap considering the problems it can cause.

Problem has been solved.I cleaned the maf with alcohol and a swab.I tested the maf and it showed good.I tested the cats and they had good flow.I replaced the new platinum plugs with new original Iridium plugs.When replacing them I found oil coming from the valve cover gasket inside where the plugs s...

North,,I did a vaccum test and did the snap at 2500 at least and with the response I got the manual said I had no restrictions,also had the wife hit the gas and I put my hand by the tailpipe a nd it seemed to have a good thrust.God I hope its not thecats~!

According to the computer all is fine.I noticed one thing unusual and that is my tranny fluid is higher than it should be.It is about 1 and a 1/2 inches over the hot mark when checked after driving while it is running.

I checked the PCV valve and cleaned it,I am waiting for the new one to come in on order.There is 92,000 on the odom.I removed the mass air flow sensor and cleaned it that helped a little .I will check the IAC.

I have gone thru 3 tanks of gas so far.It had puffed a shot of white smoke when it first started up figured it was valve seals so I changed oil hasnt puffed or used oil since.Also put in injector cleaner in gas,still no change.How would I test the cat to see if it was good or bad?Thanks
