I'm a new owner and I've had my 2007 Vibe for just under a couple months now and a few weeks after getting it I started getting the check engine light. The code came up P0012 - Intake Camshaft Position System Performance - Retarded. This '07 only has 14,000 miles on it.Anyone familiar with this particular issue and if it's possible this could be related to the ECM issue that has caused the new recall? A mechanic at the GM dealership did a scan and pulled up the code, but said he wasn't familiar with this issue but was ready to give me a rough estimate of $600+ to repair. A friend of a friend who's a mechanic thinks the filter for the sensor may need to be cleaned. The only performance-related issue I've noticed is right around 42 MPH I notice my car will kind of sputter for a few seconds. Not sure if it's in any way related. I'm driving down a slight decline from my house in the morning when it happens. Doesn't really seem to happen otherwise.I've done a little searching on this board and have seen the P0012 code come up for a couple people but it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of experience with the issue.Anyone have thoughts? I have a copy of the printout the GM dealership gave me that describes the P0012 issue but unfortunately I can't post it because the .pdf is too large.
Welcome to GenVibe!!! Sounds like a problem with the variable valve timing and/or timing chain. It's still under warranty, let the dealer muck around with it as there's a lot of things to take apart just to get at it!Good luck!
Could be the "Oil Control valve Filter" that supplies oil to the variable valve train. The manual states that if you have problems with variable valve(s) or timing check the Oil control valve filter,it costs $13.00 at toyota and about 30 minutes to install,,better than $600.
