Did you use a Toyota or Pontiac catylic converter or an aftermarket? I had my mechanic do an fancy test and he told me the O2 sensors were good, it was the cat. I had the same experience, i.e., it was clear for about 6 months and then came back, but it was because of the Walker cat.
I have just finished my sad saga on the check engine light. My original mechanic was right, the Walker Catalytic converter was no good. I had another mechanic do a detailed analysis with a nice computer program under various engine loads. It was consistently failing the cat efficiency test under loa...
Thanks for the info. I don't know the brand name. They were ordered from a local parts store and he told me that the dealer would cost much more. One more question - did I damage my new cat by driving with faulty sensors? The parts guy said no and recommends what he calls a "cat cleaner" t...
I ordered two new O2 sensors for about $250 total. I assume that replacing both is the way to go. Is that price seem about right? I am going to replace them tomorrow.
Based on what I have read here, I am going to replace both my O2 senors. Is that something that is easy to do yourself? Are they simply threaded on, remove and replace? Also, why did my light stay off for 6 months after I changed the catalyst if it really was the O2 sensors. If the O2 sensors were ba...
I know it has been a while since this topic was discussed, buy I am having code 420 problems. I started getting them last fall and long story short, I replaced my catalytic converter with a Walker brand in December of '07. I have not had the code come up in 6 months. It recently came up, stayed up f...
Thank you very much for the information. I purchased a blower motor resistor for a 2003 Matrix (I have a 2003 Vibe) from the Toyota dealer. I am not sure that it looks like this. Where did you get the replacement part and about how much?
Hello, where is this resistor? I have the glovebox out, can see the connector to the blower motor, but can't find the resistor. Is it behing the switch for the fan speeds? Thanks
Hello, please help. I have a Vibe 03 base and need new tires. 205/55/16. My original Continentals are wearing out. I like the BF Goodrich Traction T/A/'s but am concerned about reduced gas mileage. How about Goodyear Assurance Comfort Tread? I also like Dunlap Sport A2 but don't like the short tread...
Hello, I am getting replacements for my original OEM Continentals. Any feedback on Goodyear Assurance? I live in Northeast and want a tire good in snow and high wear rating. They are about $90 on Tire rack. Any feedback? Thanks
Hello,I have the base engine and change my oil about every 3500-4000 miles. I use regular Mobil 5W-30 oil and Super Tech filters from Wal Mart. At $2 they are cheap, but are they OK? I figure that I change it enough that it isn't an issue. Any thoughts?
When I first got the car, I noticed the exact same problem. I had had a Civic and the shifting was much smoother compared to the Vibe. I did get used to it though, and I don't grind the gears any more. I just go slower and don't try to force it in. Hope this helps.
You should have buyer's remorse. I wouldn't spend that much for a Vibe. I have 2 and love the car but learned a valuable lesson. The first one I paid about 16K for a base 5 speed with moons and tunes and power. About 9 months later, I spent about 1K less and got auto buy doing homework and not becom...
Yes, I have two Vibes. Both 2003's. Both have Moons and Tunes and Power package but one is auto and one is manual. The stick gets about 33 to 34 mpg and the auto about 5 mpg less. Excellent cars so far. Any updates on the plastic cladding issue? One of the cars's cladding looks like someone took san...
I had this problem when my car was new. It is the insulation or lack of it, behind the bezel. GM has an insulation kit - it is just foam rubber. They pop the bezel off, put the new insulation in, and the problem goes away. There was a service bulletin about this. Good luck. By the way, I have 2 new ...
Thank you. I just learned that there really is no such thing as lube. My mechanic says he can't remember a modern car that has grease fittings. They are really talking about lubing all the cables, but I am not going to worry about that every 6,000 miles.
Hello, I have a question. I usually change the oil myself on all my cars and did the first one for my Vibe at 3,000 miles. The second one at 6,000 is due soon and I want to do it myself again. My question is that the owners manual says get a chassis lube. Is it necessary? Will I have to take my Vibe...
In reading these suggestions, it is occurring to me that people are making unrealistic wish lists. I mean, why not just say that I want my Vibe to get 100 mpg, have thrusters to fly above the traffic and come with deluxe *** scratchers. Come on, you bought a small station wagon! Just kidding. I do l...
I am sorry for not replying. I recommend you take it to the dealer and have them do it. There is a service bulletin for it, I don't know the number. It is a kit but is essentially just padding. Let them do it, don't take the chance of breaking the plastic.
I recommend you take your squeaking dashboard to the dealer. There is a service bulletin for this and they will fix it, they fixed mine. Also, less worry because they would be responsible if they broke something. Let them break it and not you in your garage. They fix for the gauge squeak worked quit...
How did you get the cargo nets for only $35? On the website you mentioned, they are $50. Did you get a discount? Anyone know where you can get these parts at discount? Thank you
The GM card has recently really irked me. I think it is some scam that they get unwitting consumers into. I signed up for 6 months of 0% financing for a balance transfer. Since then I have made purchases and paid off the balance for the purchases every month, leaving the balance transfer amount alon...
Thank you MA VIBE Fan and Baltimore 17. Why can't people just follow the manual? The same thing with the Amsoil. If the owner's manual says rotate front to back, just do it. If it says don't use non API certified oil, then don't use it. I think that these forums are entertaining and mostly informati...
I just got my second new Vibe and the hatch did not close when I took it from the dealer. I noticed it about 2 miles down the road, my dash light was on indicating door was open. Took it back to the dealer and they made some adjustments, just enough to get it to be able to close with lots of force. ...
I was talking to the Pontiac dealer and he said he is going to order more Vibes with manual transmissions. He says that people who order Vibes generally order the manuals, so he might as well stock them.
I recently bought a new Vibe Satellite with 5 spd, moons and tunes and power package to replace my 92 Civic. I like the car alot and enjoy the discussions on this website. My wife liked the car also, so today we bought our second Vibe to replace a 1991 Camry Wagon - egged on by a GM supplier discoun...
I have had the same problem with the A/C, i.e. it is too warm. Should I wait until next spring or summer to get it adjusted or can they adjust it now or verify it is correct with the colder weather outside? Thanks.
Hello, I need oil filter info. also. There doesn't seem to be any answers on these threads. I have a Vibe base, 5 spd. I have a Toyota filter on it already. My mechanic gave me an oil filter with a slightly different part number. Does anyone know the correct Toyota part number? Thanks.
I bought my Vibe in August from Colandrea Pontiac in Newburgh, NY. I was also concerned about buying a first year production model, especially and American car. No real problems so far, however. It really is a Toyota with Pontiac badges. The problems I have all are mentioned in these forums, but the...
I had an annoying dash rattle from day one. I have a Civic with 190,000 miles on it with no rattles whatsoever, so this was intolerable. After reading posts hear and on Edmunds.com, I was able to pinpoint the problem and tell the dealer. The dealer ordered a special piece of felt from GM and install...
I can't believe the fuel economy so far. I was getting about 27 to 30 mpg initially but am now getting closer to 40 mpg in mixed driving (mostly highway). I have about 1400 miles on the car - 5 spd base with power package and moons and tunes package (Satellite). I am starting to like the car more an...
