Re: Handeling characteristics (Benny)

My Vibe has replacements on the front. They are marked "All Season 55 Dominator". When I start on a slight incline when the pavement is wet, I sometimes spin my tires. When I first purchased the car and checked the psi, they were around 40, so I lowered them to 30 and had less of a problem...

Re: Am I about to become a trader? (Traitor in some eyes)... (tnpartsguy)

Never mind my stupid reply--replied before I saw the last page. However, it is still not a money-making deal, you may have the car you want now, and that is part of life's satisfaction. If I made decisions solely on money, I wouldn't have $10,000 of sporting goods, right?

Re: Toyota poll? (Vibe_dude)

I added the "Own Vibe, own Toyota" vote category. My wife owns a RAV4, and in the past owned an 85 Tercel. I have driven a lot of miles in the "full" Toyotas and they are dependable, quality vehicles. Unlike the Honda and Nissan I have owned, neither of the Toyotas ever stranded ...

If it's the air filter, I'll eat the air filter. In my mind, there is no way a clogged or old air filter is going to know the difference between 35 degrees and 30 degrees. Either it would happen most of the time, or not at all, regardless of the temperature. Now, I know a lot of things that go wrong ...

Call me stupid, but I told the repair personnel that the tools were in the car so they could retrieve them. Had I been less honest, I probably could have fenced them on eBay for $50-$100. However, to me that is called "stealing tools and fencing them illegally."

Overnight, below 30 degrees, surged while I scraped off the ice left by freezing rain this morning. After letting the car go through its surging, it settled down into normal idle...and it hadn't surged for the previous 2 weeks while temperatures were abnormally high here (35-44 degree daytime highs)...

Thank you joatmon and Mavrik for finding these (and sharing). I, too, thought the car was going nuts, but I cannot find any reduction in performance. MPG, acceleration, everything else works as expected. I have found that even after accelerating on a cold day, if I put in the clutch at the first sto...

Surging at idle?

I haven't seen this yet, and I couldn't find any other instances in my searches. When cold (yes, nothing is ever a problem when cold!), my Vibe will warm up to about 2000 rpm, then drop to 1000, up to 2000, down to 1000...it will repeat this 5-8 times, then stay at warm-up revolutions. Obviously, thi...

Surging idle when cold?

I know most problems with a cold engine aren't considered "problems," but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this, and how it might be fixed. When cold (under 25 degrees), my Vibe will warm up for 30 seconds at regular start up RPM. Then, it will drop down, surge up, drop down, surg...

Actually, CR did say the Vibe was a good car. In its dual review of the Vibe/Matrix in August 2002, they said the Vibe/Matrix offered "good practical alternatives to a small SUV, and we expect them to hold up well." Since they tested dissimilar vehicles, the Vibe scorec lower than the Matr...

Re: price per month and month on your vibe? (remusrm)

While I am not going to post my financial figures because I work for a bank, I'd like to adjust the comment that "credit scores determine your APR." The prime rate determines your real APR, otherwise the dealership is getting money out of you a different way.The only line that counts on an...

A stupid clutch question

After bragging about my gas mileage, I now need to ask a stupid clutch question.Last two days, when I put in the clutch, I hear a tiny, soft "whoosh" noise (it sounds like a quiet, dampened version of the "car" noise in Van Halen's "Panama," if that makes any difference...

If it's THE car for you, then it doesn't matter...you're still buying it, right? If it's not the car, but the price, then I'll have to suggest the used market. Dealer markup is designed to make a profit even after all the rebates and shell games are over. While the dealer will still make a profit on ...

Amazing thing about the Vibe...it really takes off compared to the other 4-cylinder 5-speeds I've driven. Now, I can't say I'm comparing to legendary speedsters; my former rides were economy cars like an '81 Civic, an '80 Datsun, an '89 Sentra, and the infamous '89 Accord. They all went from 0-60 in...

I must admit, I'm holding my breath on the first tank of gas, because the crusty old Accord (now for sale in relative's front lawn) was getting 32-33 in the summer and 26-28 in the winter. Hope the Vibe will meet or beat it. I drive like Granny with a state cop behind her, so wish me luck!

What a neat question...and such thoughtful replies.Darned skippy I'd care if the hatch glass didn't open. While I could do without it (the '81 Honda Civic was SWEET in this regard), having the hatch glass open means:--I can still transport something 10 feet long and secure it inside the car;--If the...

I don't think I can say much on this forum that hasn't been said 100 times, but I am cranked about my Vibe. Although used, I've been waiting for a "new" car for over a year after the 1989 Accord started playing the "let's see if I'll start today!" game.I don't think I got a great...
