After bragging about my gas mileage, I now need to ask a stupid clutch question.Last two days, when I put in the clutch, I hear a tiny, soft "whoosh" noise (it sounds like a quiet, dampened version of the "car" noise in Van Halen's "Panama," if that makes any difference). Foot is off the gas, and I have only owned the car for 750 miles (has almost 39,000 on it).Is this a bad clutch, oh technical wizards (clutch, bearing, whatever), or is it something that could be normal? If it gets worse, I'll start saving for a new clutch, before or after 60,000...

It could be the clutch release bearing, but it could also be a normal sound. I have a 2003 base with 5 speed also, and haven't noticed the sound, but I haven't been listening for it. If it were me, I'd probably just be aware of the sound and try to listen for significant changes over time. Does it make the sound when the car is not running? I had some sound out of the clutch pedal and the cable that goes through the firewall, some lubrication made that go away after it evolved into a frustrating squeak.
