Re: Clock spring, new OEM, used OEM, or cheap knockoff?

If you haven't done one of these before, be sure you're good with airbag safety... I've never done one before but I've watched a lot of youtube videos in the last few days. As far as I can tell the only consideration for airbag safety is to disconnect the battery and wait for ~20 minutes before mes...

Clock spring, new OEM, used OEM, or cheap knockoff?

I'm pretty sure I have a faulty clock spring on my 2005 Vibe AWD. The airbag light is always on. If I turn the wheel all the way to either side and then turn the car off the light will be out when I start it again. But as soon as the wheel straightens out the light will come back on. Sounds like a c...

Re: DIY Exhaust replacement possible for AWD?

...I should list the parts and their prices so people don't have to look up the diagram:

in order of flow:
#9 converter pipe gasket -- $26
#8 converter and pipe -- $277
#13 muffler pipe clamp -- $37
#12 muffler pipe gasket -- 26
#11 muffler -- $311

TOTAL ~$676

DIY Exhaust replacement possible for AWD?

My 2005 AWD Vibe (46K miles) has been very good to me. Recently the muffler pipe sheared off just upstream of the muffler. I took it to a muffler shop and they told me that because it was an AWD they cannot get aftermarket exhaust parts for it, that they'd need to get original GM parts for it, and a...

Re: Flat tire options? (MiVibe-ToolGuy)

So the conclusion of the story is that he was able to patch it from the inside and I did not have to buy a new tire. Only cost me $10 too, which seems like a fair price. Now as a follow-up question to you all, as I was putting the wheel back on and tightening up the lugs I began to wonder "how ...

Re: Flat tire options? (MiVibe-ToolGuy)

So, I took the tire to a tire shop yesterday and the fellow looked at it and said he would try to patch it from the inside but if "it had damaged the belts, then I would have to buy a whole new tire." What do you think he means by "damage the belts." Does that sounds on the up an...

Flat tire options?

I changed my first flat tire today. In 20 years I have never had a flat until today when my Vibe (only 6,000 miles) went into a pothole and came out with a 1/4" carriage bolt embedded in the front tire. low pressure warning light went on and everything worked as it should. Even the little jack ...

How to jack it up without hurting it

I want to jack up one side of my vibe at a time to do a tire rotation. I started this project last weekend but failed. I put my jack in the notched area behind the front wheel and got the tire in the air, but once it was airborne, I could not for the life of me figure out how I was supposed to put a...

Has anyone installed a fuel pump kill switch in their Vibe? I have heard that this is a really easy install on most vehicles and a very cost-effective theft deterrent.Has anyone done it? Is it easy to find the fuel pump power wire? Where did you hide the kill switch istelf? Is it bad for the injecto...

I get 26 mpg in town and 29 on the highway. Not too bad for an AWD car. The AWD definitely has lower gas mileage than the FWD.

Re: vibe causes children distress (joatmon)

I think there is some truth to this. My 2 year old cannot see much of anything out of my vibe and twice now on long car rides has thrown up from carsickness. Now we open the windows to give her a breeze, even when it is cold outside. I think the lack of visibilit contributes to this. When she rides i...

bolt size for trailer hitch holes

Does anyone know what size bolts (diameter and thread) fit the pre-drilled holes meant for mounting a trailer hitch? Before the salt and snow start spraying up in there this winter I want to spray some WD40 in them, put a washer around a bolt and screw a couple in to protect those threads from salt ...

I just went out and checked the bumpers. I can see how you might say they are different from the metal parts in shinyness, but I think I'd describe it as more of a texture thing. The plastic parts seem to have very fine dimples, like an eggshell or something, while the metal is, of course, perfectly...

Welcome. I have an '05 lava AWD Vibe with monotone and the paint is pretty consistent from the metal to the bumpers. I sure wouldn't call it "dull." Go around to some dealers and look at other lava-colored pontiacs to see if yours is really an odd-ball.

OK, so after reading all the advice in this thread and elsewhere on genvibe about debadging, I went out with my hairdrier and fishing line after work today and gave it a try. Debadging -- can it go horribly wrong?

I waxed my car for the first time today and was annoyed at having to work around the 5 badges placed in incovenient spots on the car. I have seen pics of debadged vibes on the forums but have been reluctant to try it for fear of damaging the paint underneath. Debadging ain't worth it if I risk doing...

First pic of NEW Lava vibe, advice for new owners

Here is my new Lava AWD monotone vibe after its first wash and wax.Things I've done to it so far (good advice for all new owners):1) Peel the dealer sticker off2) Pop the little rubber doohickeys that the delaer left in my glovebox into where they are supposed to go (the wheel wells!)3) First oil ch...

Possible to reuse my 175/70/R13 snows?

I have a complete, and virtually unused, set of mounted and balanced snow tires from my previous car. They are 175/70/R13. Could I use them safely on my new '05 Vibe this winter or are they too small?

I lived in the boston area for four years and always used the club. I didn;t even it lock it most of the time, just the visibility of the club is enough of a deterrent. the little red light of car alarms and fake car alarms is ubiquitous now. The club is a classic, like pacman.

Today I drove around with my "out of gas" indicator light on for a long time. I wimped out and got a fill up. But it got me thinking about how far I could go before I ran out of gas. Has anyone tested this experimentally? That is, has anyone actually run out of gas? And if so, how many mil...

Has anyone installed those arrow-shaped LED turn signals that go on your side mirrors? My wife likes the look of them, and I must admit, I think they are kind of neat too. If anyone has installed them, can you tell me if they are easy to install and do they hold up in the weather?

I called the salesman tonight and he suggested that it might be rail dust also. Although it doesn't look very "dusty" to me. One spot almost looks like a wet drip and the rest are flecks. And the colors are so pure. Pure blue in some cases, pure orange in others, and pure silver in most. I...

new lava vibe has non-lava paint flecks on it! Totally bummed.

I brought my new lava red Vibe home from the dealer last night and this evening I noticed that the right front panel, right front pillar, right mirror, and passenger door have multi-colored paint flecks all over them. It looks almost like the car was parked in a body shop and got hit with overspray,...
