This extra-sporty Vibe is more than willing to flex its more powerful muscles, delivering an extra 7.5 lbs. of boost and a significant bump in horsepower and torque. The supercharger's design is so well integrated it's hard to tell it's not original equipment. The Roots-type manifold design maximizes engine horsepower and torque without sacrificing durability. Precision vehicle calibration maintains driveability and enhances performance. Available on the base model, the supercharger increases Vibe's horsepower and torque up to 35 percent. The GM Performance Parts Vibe Supercharger has been extensively tested and tuned, resulting in a high-quality finished product that carries a warranty of 12 months or 12,000 miles from customer installation. When dealer installed, the warranty stretches to 36 months or 36,000 miles.GM Accessories worked closely with GM's vehicle line team to create the Vibe Sport Package, a ground effects package that melds flawlessly with the Vibe's original design. The fit and finish suggest this sporty Vibe just came off the line. The Sport Package will allow young buyers to personalize the Vibe with front and rear fascia extensions, side rocker extensions and upper and mid-gate spoilers. The rear spoilers also are available separately. This Vibe custom bodywork is available from GM Accessories in Salsa, Satellite and Abyss. It can also be ordered primed, allowing the customer to match other Vibe production colors. To complete the package, a polished stainless steel exhaust tip is also available. The GM Performance Parts Vibe Supercharger and Vibe Sport Package will both be available in the first quarter of 2003. Customers can order the Vibe Sport Package with their vehicle and finance it in their monthly payment. When they take delivery of their vehicle, the Sport Package will be installed by the dealer. I should have pics posted in a few days. Mike will be traveling to SEMA next week and should be able to find out prices then. I'm not sure what engine this is for. 7.5 sounds ok for the 1ZZ but really high for the 2ZZ so my guess is this SC would be for the 1ZZ but I don't know for sure yet. This would bring the HP of the 1ZZ to around 180HP and the torque to around 170 ft lbs. A base Vibe with a SC would easily beat a GT.

I can't wait.I'd assume the option would be about $1,500 for the do-it-yourself kit; $2,000-2,500 installed.

I called my dealer's service department. They didn't have any real info, but the guy said: "I think it's for the high output 1.8L engine". I interpretted that as 2zz.

Looks like the 1ZZ will spankin some 2ZZ (removed) soon. Sorry GT owners had to say it. Aftermarket forced induction is in the works for 2ZZ owners though. Not sure if anything forced induction wise will ever come from the manufacturer though.Someone asked if it will work with a auto and the answer is YES.

quote:Read the GM info announcement:"Available on the base model, the supercharger increases Vibe's horsepower and torque up to 35 percent."Think it's clear that it will be for the base model!Seemed obvious to me too.But just for a moment, think about that 35% increase. That means a base Vibe could rate as high as 175-hp and 170-tq. That's way more HP than my old Sunbird and almost as much torque (140-hp, 185-tq). I'd expect low 15's (possibly even a 14.99) for ET's. For my Vibe that would mean over a second and a half drop in ET. Well worth the price in my eyes.Available first quarter '03. That's right as my tax refund should be getting to me. Oh yeah!

Ever since GM almost killed the Corvette nameplate with the Grand National...they made it common practice not to have cars in one segment, that interfere with sales in another. I guess those die hard GM engineers found a way keep the Execs happy by making it as an "Add-On".My big question is...Will I have to beef up the auto trans to handle this new power from the SC? I really need the better power after almost getting killed merging on the freeway.

i wouldnt worry about it, eventually someone is gonna figure out the high-compression problem for the superchargers or turbos for the gt, you can always go out and get a new low end in your car of all forged parts and lower the compression that way so you can have tons of boost. mind you those who do get the SC are gonna pay areound 3k and significantly shorten engine life depending on driving style, but the thing is that the boost is all the time from and SC while you have to wait for the turbo to spool before you get all of the boost. With just bolt-ons for the gts, if you can get a ram air hood, high-flow cat, with full cat back exhaust, new chip, and possibly a new clutch and flywheel you will pull in and whoop on a base with a SC.yogi

If you select a dealer you can see the price. It's about $2800, not including installation. I'm guessing this kit will probably cost about the same.Edit:Sorry, forgot to put the link. I doubt that the SC will work with AWD, Everyone says our AWD cannot take the extra torque. But at least we can hope, or better yet maybe someone will figure out a way to reenforce our AWD system, then watch out for the AWD vibes............

This is a e-mail I recieved from GMquote:The current supercharger is designed only for the base engine. It will notot the GT or AWD models, nor do we have plans on a GT or AWD application .Other product offerings are being investigated and developed to complimentthe supercharger program. We (GM) are aware of the success of the Matrix'sparts and have similar plans for Vibe. Truth be told, the Toyota/ TRDrelationship is quite different than the Pontiac/ GM Performance Partsrelationship. In this case, their program has brought product to marketfaster than ours.In some cases, Toyota and/or TRD parts will function on the Vibe. Pleasenote that there are differences in the two vehicles despite having the sameroots via the joint venture. Because of these differences, neither GM, norToyota/ TRD endorses using parts for the Matrix on the Vibe. Likewise, theopposite is true also. Finally, this is a bit early in the program for me to offer any photos ofthe supercharger. We hope to have some photo properties available soon.-dandan.1.garrison@gm.com Performance parts specialistI recieved another e-mail today and they have pictures they will be sending to me soon.

Being that the AWD system on the vibe is a "slip-detect" traction control system, it will most likely cause problems with its operation by increasing overall power. This system is far different than those used on GM vehicles in the 90's.

Well this post would have had pictures of the supercharger installed on a Vibe but Pontiac got the bright idea of taking pictures of it in the rain so they had to wait and retake them because none of them came out. Gee wet camara and film couldn't imagine how pictures wouldn't have come out? LOLAnyway I should have pics posted sometime next week.

This is kinda funny how the base model actually turns out to be the one that has more potential. The same thing is happening with GP's (Grand Prix)'s, the base GT model has a new centrifugal supercharger, making it possible for the base model to outpace a GTP.

I disagree, as I do believe they will offer in the future (next 6-8 months) a supercharger for the GT engine, and at a 35-40 % increasethat can bring that car to 235-240 Horsepower engine.....That was as Much as My 85 Iroc Z28 had with the 305 4 barrell at the time, and the Vibe GT with the SC Mod might pull a Hat Trick... like the same way they did with the Buick Grand National, that even made state troupers jump on getting that car....My Opinion is that the GT engine can handle and deliver alot more then 180 with very minimal modificationson it!

No way. A factory SC for the 2ZZ will never happen. I have explained why and GM and Toyota feel they wont be able to safely install a SC on the 2ZZ and still be able to have a warrenty that wont brake there bank. Even the after market companies trying to develop forced induction are having a hard time because of the 2ZZ high compression.West Covina is going to shoot for 4.5 PSI on stock internals for around $3,500. You'll be looking at around 225 to 240 flywheel HP.For another $1,500 they are going to offer new internals with a lower compression pistons and pump the PSI up to 15 to 17PSI. So for $5,000 you could have a 17 PSI turbo. I have no idea what the HP would be at this PSI but you'd probably have no trouble spanking a late model Vette at a light with this system. Tire traction would be a issue though. The factory SC isn't going to happen though.

im not pissed, so what if someone wants to go out and put 3k into their base vibe and make it quicker than a GT. the probability of people actually getting them is rare. and me finding one of them besides at maybe a vibe gathering is even rarer. there are only a little over 30k vibes on the road, out of so many million cars that are driving around its rare enought to see a regular vibe. by the time i do see one of you guys with an SC maybe i will have the West Covina turbo in my GT, warranty or not your still only puttin 189hp to the flywheel and somewhere in the neighborhood of 155-160hp to the ground, while with a turbo i will be puttin 208 to the ground its gonna be an ongoing argument forever, i say more power to ya and go out and roast Ricers.Plus if you want to look into small fast factory cars look at the 2004 Dodge Neon R/T. They are supposed to be turboing that car and there have been rumors of test models running 14.1 1/4 mile times. now for a compact car that is smoke coming from the factory, and with a little effort and small mods, like exhaust and boost controller, and other little bolt ons you can have that car into the low 13's and high 12's and basically laugh at people that try to keep up.all this talk about ooh the base with an sc is sooo much better, Its all relative as to what mods are intended and the means to get hhem. at the time i was purchasing them i found the gt more to my taste and it still is. I will not cry if i get whooped by a base with an SC, i will just say i hope the are having fun with the money that was spent. thats all i gotyogi
