Ask a simple question...

Post by redlava »

and get no answer. I have been trying to find out weither or not I can install the 2005 subwoofer into my 2003. I don't want to buy everything and find out that it won't work so I have been asking around trying to find out. I e-mailed Pontiac the other day this message, I have a 2003 Vibe and I waswondering if it was possible to installthe integrated subwoofer that youoffer on the 2005 models into mycar. I realize that I would have toby the side panel and the speaker, but beyond that is there anythingthat would prevent me from doingthis? Is there a difference in theside panel that would make it notfit? Is there a wiring issue betweenthe speaker and the amp in the 2003that I am not aware of? Would mylocal dealership be able to installthis?Any info helps. Thanks I didn't expect a technical answer from them because i'm sure they can't just go around telling peple that they can go ahead and do a big alteration to their car. I just wanted a simple "yeah it can be done if you do this, but we don't recomend it as it may void your warranty yada yada yada." Instead I get this, Dear Mr. Kruse,Thank you for contacting the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center. I appreciate you taking the time to contact us in regards to speakers on your 2003 Vibe.We apologize, but we are unable to provide the support you requested. All vehicles released from the assembly plant are inspected to ensure they comply with government specifications, as well as standards established by the Engineering Department. Pontiac does not recommend modifying a car or truck after it has left the assembly plant. Changes may adversely affect the vehicle and possibly result in operational problems. This could result in the warranty voiding of specific items covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.Thank you for giving me this opportunity to assist you. Thanks a lot for nothing Pontiac.

Sounds like a form letter to me. Good to see that GM gave you that "excellent customer service"

Quote »Changes may adversely affect the vehicle and possibly result in operational problems. You see, GM has made major chassis and body modifications for model year 2005 which will compensate for the subwoofer's weight and small amount of vibration that occurs with its use. Additional side impact protection for the subwoofer itself also has to be integrated into the right rear quarter, or else the vehicle won't meet the strict federal regulations for emissions and fuel economy. (removed)! Sounds like Pontiac is still giving its owners superb service as always! One of these days, even though I now know it isn't recommened, I will add this subwoofer to my car, using nothing but genuine (non-recommended, warranty-voiding) GM parts. I really like the balance between sound, storage, and appearance it provides, so I'm definitely interested.I wish we could find out exactly how to get the sub added without having someone here being an unfortunate guinea ping.

does anyone out here have the wiring diagram for the 2005 moons and tunes + subwoofer? if there is we could just match it up to the wiring diagram for a 2003. how about the part # for the 2005 amp, see if it is the same # as the 2003 if it is it should work.

If the sub is just built into a rear panel... just buy that whole assembly and install... GM just likes to complicate everything.Yeah you GM guys we met at the MI Vibe meet we know you read this but can't respond. You want quality control? try controlling the quality of the service we get. We want to spend money on our Vibes by buying things from GM which should be like awsome for you, rob us of our money lol... But no "we don't believe that would work but thanks for letting us help you."thanks for nothing.

They can easily mail you brochures, get you in contact with a dealer but that's about it...It's like going to school and asking the janitor to explain to you a physics theory!!!aww. good anology! and quite true. they were more than happy to take your info and fwd it to someone who will "call you back" but never does.

They cannot and will not tell an owner to modify their vehicle or even state a simple yes or no answer. Sometimes they will refer you to your dealer and probably regarded that question as technical in nature. I have worked as contract for GM with two different jobs, one was the Pontiac Roadside Assistance Center and people would call with the oddest questions or accusations and we could only tell people what GM tells us to say. You contacted Pont Cust. Asst. and those people are not techincal in nature and therefore have no knowledge how to answer that in the first place. The only Tech. Asst. group GM has is a Tech Hotline for the dealers. Cust. Asst. answers warranty issues/questions and most of all complaints. When I worked for GM there was two levels of Cust. Asst. The first was to take the call, log it and listen. The second level was for larger issues, call backs, problem resolutions, etc. Sorry you had an experience with them but what you got is what everyone would get. The only options you would have is a serv. manual, asking around or get part numbers for comparison. Also, this response would be common from ANY auto manf. not just GM or Pontiac, so it is not just a Pont thing.
