Question on Sterring Wheel

Post by PopeyeFAFL »

This may be stupid to you, but since there is no stupid questions, only stupid answers, here are my questions on Steering Wheel.1- As you know, the padded material making the exterior surface of the steering wheel is somehow molded in a split mold. The line (in this case, a curve) between the two mold is called the "part line" or "partition line".Does any of you have a "flash" (excess of padded material sticking out of the theoretical shape), it does not take a lot of material excess to notice it on your fingers, as the steering wheel is returning to the neutral position at the end of a turn. Now, did any of you ever complaint and got that fix at your Pontiac dealership, or did you decide to take care of that yourself ? (if so, using sand paper, a miniature hobbyist plane, an X-Acto or something else ?).2- When your are driving straight ahead (no side wind, no acceleration, perfect alignment & wheel balance), does your steering wheel dead center with your car, by that I means, is the arrow tip of the Pontiac logo pointing to the ground (not with a 2 or 3 degree angle with the road direction). Now did any of you complaint and got your steering wheel re-indexed at your Pontiac dealership. Thanks in advanceP.S.: Reading this post with technical description, you guess it right, I'm an Engineer (Aircraft Industries), LOL, LOL.

Hey Pop, the vibe isn't my daily driver but on the times when I do drive it, I haven't noticed any excess material coming off the back of the steering wheel. As for the misaligned steering wheel, we had the dealer fix its alignment during its first service. Our steering wheel was VERY noticeably "steering" to the left. They didn't do a perfect job, its ever-so off still, but the dealer claims its up to spec and can't do much more with it. Go figure...Goodwrench Service

Honestly. A dealer will do the least work possible to satisify the customer. At least that's how I notice it here. Service department people are horrible. I gave the bird to the last dealership I went to get my car fixed. The reason was, I had to get some warranty work done to the car and they said they wouldn't do it. Never. I was like fine f%%% you. I walked right outta there and gave em the bird in the process. Never goin back there again.Inder Singh

HiI work at a GM truck plant and I'm sure it is the same at other plants with other cars and trucks so here goes:the "flash" on the steering wheel comes in from the supplier if you want to cut it off with an exacto knife go head. the dealer might do it but its just as easy to do yourself.the steering wheel angle is a pain it can be 5 degrees right or left of center, when the vehicle is aligned, a jig fixture holds the steering wheel almost dead center while a person in a pit below the vehicle adjusts the toe while the wheels are rotating. hope this answers your questionsand I hope its not a stupid answer
