positive & negative speaker wires?

I'm putting in some new speakers right now (Alpine Type-S 6 1/2" 2-way in the rear; I already discovered the tweeter sticks out too far to put them in the front... going to try some Type-S components next, but those might be too deep!), but I have a simple question - which wire in the door is positive and which is negative? I've only taken the front and rear driver's side door panels off so far, and both of them have a red and a white wire. I assume it's the same on the passenger's side. Which wire is which?Thanks.
