Easy way to reduce picture file size for posting

Post by cohocarl »

Just thought I'd post a couple pics on how to convert a *.bmp picture to a *.jpg picture to reduce the size of the file for quicker web transfer. (I'm not picking on anyone in particular, but have noticed some very HUGE (file size) pictures being posted)I realize older versions of Windows only handled *.bmp type files in it's "Paint" program, but newer versions can convert *.bmp's to *.jpg's, which can reduce the "size" of the file to a 1/100th of it's original size, with little or no reduction in resolution, and maintaining the same physical dimensions. The Windows "Paint" program is a joke compared to most graphic editor programs, but it's on 99.9999% of all Windows machines. The pics below are on my Windows 2000 machine. Here's where to locate "Paint".

Just bring up your *.bmp file, and "Save As" below:

And change the file type to the bottom one listed, ".JPG", the save.Presto, it's saved as a much "smaller" *.jpg file.
