Picked up my 04' Vibe last Sunday, washed it by hand today and have a big wet spot and drips on the drivers side roof pilar and just in front of the moonroof controls toward the window. From reading the forum messages sounds like it might be the drain being plugged or not hooked up on the left pillar but the one behind the moonroof controls has me worried that the seal may be bad too. Any thought? I'm going to make an appointment to take it in next week to the dealer. What a pain in the (removed) to have a new car that leaks. This is my 1st GM car and hope this isn't the norm or it will be my last one.
first: remember TOYOTA has a hand in the design.second: yes it sounds like your drain hose isn't hooked up. the seal around the sunroof is not a tight seal, water will get by it that is the purpose of the drains on all 4 corners of the sunroof.third: yes it is a pain in the behind to have problems with a new car as for the waterleak they don't watertest every vibe that comes off the line and building them on average of 1 a minute (and they are busy for that minute) it gets busy on the line and things get missed. once the headliner is in place no one sees that the hose was forgotten.at our plant the hose that goes on the sunroof is a bear to push all the way on. as for all the problems we see here, they must have real problems on the line at NUMMI trying to hook them up.sorry if this sounds *****y but all I hear about is GM crap this GM crap that and if you look close its just a GM nameplate, and everything underneath has TOYOTA written all over it. I hope they fix your vibe and you have many trouble free miles. oh' yea welcome to GENVIBE. JD Powers rating for the Vibe it isn't the best, meaning they have a high PPH (problems per 100 vehicles) at NUMMI. sorry for the ramblings of an old man.
I understand your position but are both the Vibe and Matrix assembled at the Nummi Production site? If not, I would then say it is a GM quality control problem with the drain hoses not being connected, not a Toyota design issue. Sorry if I sounded negative about GM but this is my 1st one and I'm expecting better longevity and quality due to the Toyota design.
That's a hassle, to have a leak on a new car, but the dealer should fix it up fine under warranty. You shouldn't have to take it back in for warranty work so soon though, what a drag.Matrix is made at a different plant in Canada. For what it's worth, I have had remarkable few problems with my Vibe. I would say that your problem is not the norm for Vibes w/ moonroofSomebody here had the dealer do something that involved removing the headliner, and when they got the car back there were grease marks on the headliner. Be sure to check when you pick it back up, and if it's not perfect, make them fix it right

They each own half the car assembly line and Toyota owns all the truck line. Toyota runs the plant, and supplies the Vibes to GM. There have even been posts about Toyota holding up GM on fixes (batttery).

Thanks for the info. As a new owner I was not aware of that Toyota ran the Nummi plant, I will correct myself and say the Toyota's QC not GM must be lacking at this plant or they are pushing production at the cost of Quality. Too bad! It goes in to the dealer today, I'll let you know what the outcome is.
Well, they checked the hoses and they were connected and not kinked anywhere. They kept it overnight and called in the "Water Doctor" and outside contractor. He claimed to make an adjustment to the left side of the moonroof and molding??? They claimed they pressure washed it and it doesn't leak now. I'll be washing it tomorrow and see if it did the job. By the way I'll be going back next week. they also messed up the plastic trim piece on the left side below the headliner. It's now on order only after I noticed it and complained about that and the grease they left on my visor. I'm hoping for better service the next time.
Hope it doesn't leak.the moon roof can be adjusted (front to back) closing effort against the seal. I asked the engineers at work if he could find anything out about them and he found out there is a big problem with the sunroofs themselves at the NUMMI plant, so it sounds like a supplier problem.as for the damage caused by the dealer. I'd be upset too.
