Mounting aftermarket tweeter

I just bought some Rockford Fosgate FNP2614 component speakers and have a couple questions. I have the moon and tunes package, so I have the stock tweeters. 1. How has anyone mounted new tweeters in the stock grills when they have the moon and tunes package? They are mounted on a metal bracket and right now I have not decided how I'll mount my new tweeters.2. Does anyone know the definite maximum depth for the front speakers? If I recall, someone thought it is about 2-1/8". These speakers I bought have a 2-1/2" mounting depth. I had the same question about the door speakers, and it looks like the deepest FRONT door speaker installed so far has a 2 and 5/16 mounting depth. As far as the tweeters go, there should not be a problem mounting them in the stock location, as most aftermarkets have a screw hole in the magnet structure. If that doesn't work, you could always pop the mesh portion of the factory panel out, mod the plastic (if needed) and fasten the mesh back on after the tweet is mounted (but before you push the panel back into place). Shouln't be too tough. Keep me posted as to whether you got that RF mid best in the door, it might work but it will be REALLY close!!

I just looked in the installation instructions that came with my Cerwin-Vegas that I put in the front, and in the specs, it says they have a 2 5/16" (59mm) mounting depth, so if you gut out your stock speakers and use it as a spacer ring, you should be fine. I didn't actually measure how much more room there is behind the magnet and window, but I don't think it was much.

OK, now I've installed my front passenger side door's speakers. The only problem I'm having now is that my new speakers do not sound as loud or clear as the stock speakers. One question I had was since the stock system has seperate components up front, where do I connect the cross over from my new speakers. Someone told me to connect the new cross over through the stock midrange speaker wires, and it should receive the highs through it as well and split it to the new tweeter, so that is what I did.Can I get another opinion from someone who has installed new component speakers in their Vibe with the moon & tunes package? I was wondering if the stock system has a cross over. I could not find one anywhere, and was wondering if maybe the amp splits the signal? I know these Rockford Fostgate speakers I bought (FNP2614) aren't their best, but they did sound nice in the store display. Since I have the stock speakers still in the driver's side door, I can compare them to the new RF's. The new RF's are not as loud and not as clear.Can anyone please help me?Thanks,

Also, just to let you know. These Rockford Fostgate speakers do fit and don't interfere with the window when it is all the way down. I think there is about 3/8" between the magnet and the glass. Then with my tweeter, I will probably just use some super glue (or thick CA) to mount it.Later,

Justin, I have no idea how Delphi wired up their Moons & Tunes speakers. Does the stock wiring have the tweeter wires running up off of the midrange, or are they a seperate run? I'm sure it's just a matter of trying to figure out the stock wiring's crossover (if there is one). Your new speakers should sound good.

I finished installing my passenger side front door speaker. From what I recall, I think the stock tweeter wire was taped in the bundle of wires that goes into the dash. I work at Best Buy and spoke to some of the car audio techs and they say there is probably just an inline capacitor or something. They say all the frequencies are sent to the full range speaker and then they send the highs also to the tweeter. So, I did have everything hooked up correctly. I'm still not too impressed with the sound quality. So far, I have only installed the front passenger side, but like I said, it is not as loud, clear, and I just realized today that there is also less bass. I'm not sure if I am going to bother installing the driver side speaker. I may just purchase some better speakers. I had some Polks in my last car and I loved those speakers! I'm thinking of maybe purchasing some Polks, Infinities, or something nicer. I thought these RF's were going to be nice, but so far they are not. What brands and models have any of you been using? How do you like them?Later,

I don't have my Vibe yet, but I have Polk EX series in my Jeep and they are really nice. They had way more bass compared to the factory speakers in that car, but I obviously can't speak about the Vibe (yet).

Piper joins the fray. Last weekend I installed Orion compoent speakers on all 4 doors of my 2003 Vibe Gt. I had to break out my Dremel and modify the door panel to install the tweeters. I even did this on the front doors even though the sails were designed for tweeters due to massive size of the new tweeters not fitting securely in the sail space. (The factory speakers were cr@p.) The only problem I had with the install was with the small gap from the new tweeter holders and the curve of the pannel. Does any one have any thoughts on how to close the gap and give the pannel a smoother apearance. This is purely a appearance issue as the new speakers are performing very well. The other thing I would like to do is light up the speakers. Any thoughts there? During the install I looked at routing paths for new wiring into the doors that would maintain a clean estetic and could not find a route I liked. If any one has put new wiring into their doors for speakers, lights, etc please post! Thank you!

You know what, when i replced my tweeters I couldn't get them to fit into the space where the stocks came from either, so I took off the mounting case and just used 3M double-sided tape and attached them to the brackets. Might not be the best way, but they fit and look like stock from the outside and I can still use the stock sail panels.

i had my MB quart tweeters mounted in the stock baffles...they fit perfectly...

Yah, my Polk tweeters are hot-glued to the bracket the factory tweeters were mounted on. Works like a charm.
