Green light on the dash?

Post by redone »

I am going to possibly bepurchasing a 2003 Vibe today, but noticed in test driving yesterday that the instrument and dash lights cut out and have to be turned all the way up manually and 2. there is a green light on one of the instrument panels. The green light, as I know it, is to let one know that the lights are on. Anyone have any input on whether these are "normal" things on the Vibe? Please help.....

Yes, this light is normal, it indicates that the headlights are on. The instruments naturally turn all the way up when the headlights are off, but if the light sensor on the dash senses darkness it will turn on the headlights automatically and you will have to readjust the instruments to full (or whatever brightness you prefer).

sounds about normal to me.The car has daytime runninng lights, and automatic headlights. The DRLs will come on when the car is running and the parking brake is off. DRLs are headlights at about half brightness and no tail lights. There is a light sensor in the driver's side corner of the dash, when it thinks it's dark enough, it will cause the automatic headlights to come on. This will be headlights at full strength, and also the tail/running lights, same as if you turned the headlights on using the headlight control. When only the DRLs are on, then the dash lights are lit up at full intensity, but when the headlights are on, then the intensity of the dash lights is controlled by the dimmer switch. Also, when the auto headlights are on (or on manually using the switch on the left stalk) then there is a green indicator light in the cluster.Somep eople have found that the all red gauges in the 2003 model washes out in sunlight, others have found that the light sensor is too sensitive, and will switch between DRL and auto headlights just by going under an overpass. Some people have disabled the DRLs to prevent the instrument cluster from toggling brightness unecessarily as they drive.I put in a switch to be able to disable my DRLs, but leave them enabled all the time. I also tend to leave the dimmer switch set to max all the time. Since I got the Vibe I've become lazy and take advantage of the auto headlights feature, but I also rely on the green indicator light to let me know if I am in DRL mode or headlight mode. Sometimes I need the lights on full when the car doesn't do so automatically, such as in fog or rain.
