Carpet Material

Post by 04shadowvibe »

IS it just me or does the material used for the carpet in our Vibes very hard to clean. Seems like it likes to hold the dirt and very hard to sweep out. I think they could have used somethin better, cause the floor mats are very nice for factory. Any tips for sweepin, i tried putting throw rugs under the floormats but it just looked bad and everything slid around as I drove.

Yeah, the floor fabric (not the floormats) is a little different in terms of cleaning (although standard on many vehicles). It seems to retain the dirt and debris more than would seem normal. I do have to get the vacuum and wet cloth out to get it completely clean and will also get out a piece of duct tape to get into the tough-to-reach corners that the vacuum will not reach.

I would recommend the Bissel Spot Remover. It works wonders for getting worked in dirt and other stains out. I once used it to remove a chili stain from one of my cars. I was amazed with the results. If nothing else, you could always take it to a professional cleaner. I'm sure they would be more than happy to get the stains out for you!

I have the weathertech floormats and I like them. They've been durable and can hold a lot of the junk that gets into the car. They are leftovers from my Mustang that I kept and put in the Vibe when I bought it. They were custom fit for the 'stang so they aren't a perfect fit in the Vibe, but they get the job done. Had them for 4 years now and they haven't discolored or anything like that, but my foot has started to wear through the rubber on the driver's floor mat. Might be time for me to order a set for the Vibe.BTW--also nice to see a fellow Viber from Pittsburgh on here! I keep noticing more and more of them around lately---even saw a new style '05 Vibe on the road yesterday. To clean the carpeting of your Vibe, you might want to stop by a local "wash it yourself" carwash and use the high-powered vaccums they have. Some of them even have a shampooing feature on them. I prefer to scrub out the carpet by hand at home after vaccuming. I always recommend to people to try a product called Dri-Clean made by Blue Coral. It should be available in Pep Boys, Advance Auto, and probably even WalMart. I have a steam cleaner/carpet shampooer at home and I even like to use the Dri-Clean in the carpet machine. Has worked great for me over the last 8 years or so.

I sure was cussin' the Vibe yesterday at the car wash when I was only able to get the big chunks out. The carpet just refuses to let anything go. Of all the cars I've owned, this one has been the most difficult to vacuum. I actually have two sets of floor mats, the OEM underneath some ones I bought at Meijer. Keeps some of the gunk out, but I mainly have them there to keep the original mats from getting too messed up.I figure I'll go down to the folks' house later on this week to give the car a better interior cleaning. They've got an Electrolux canister vac, as old as I am out in the garage. I haven't found anything that works better. I really need to focus under the seats, and may have to figure out how to remove the dead pedal, since quite a bit of junk has accumulated around it. Haven't been able to get that stuff out with it in place.

The dead pedal just snaps into place. Squeeze and pull it with your hands and it pops out.
