Vacation in New Hampshire

Post by Sputnik »

We've decided to go to New Hampshire for a vacation in September. I know absolutely nothing about New Hampshire. I hear they have no sales tax though? We plan on going to Mt Washington and hitting some of the outlet stores... is there other stuff that we should consider doing while we're there? Any info would be great. Thanks!

sputnik,It sounds like you are heading to the North conway area - a great family area really, they have Storyland which if you are say, 7 and under, it's a blast. If not, you aren't missing much.In North Conway, there are some cool shops, Zeb's country store is neat.

Yeah North Conway area is where we are headed. I have no kids and I'm not under 7 so we'll probably pass on storyland. Apparently New Hampshire is closer than I thought so we'll be driving down. For some reason I always think the States is so far away.

we're only right next door! You love the mountains and the hiking, that is if you are into that - if not, dude, ya picked the wrong state to visit! No seriously, the more I was thinking about it I suggest you drive to the top of Mount Washington - it's a cool ride, just make sure those brakes work for the ride down! They also have the Attatash slides which I remember being pretty cool. As a dad of a 5 and 3 year old I have to rely on memory of the cool big kid/adult things! They have some nice golfing up there too...oh, and you mentioned the Outlets - again, the shopping is pretty good - and yes as you stated NH is tax free...Check out http://www.mtwashingtonvalley.org/ this may help you out...have a great trip.

How far south are you planning to go? Hampton beach is pretty cool. There are also outlet shops in Kittery, ME, which is right off of interstate 95 and on the border between Maine and New Hampshire. Might want to consider hitting some of the lakes too. LOTS of lakes around the foothills of the white mountains. There is also an amusement park called Canobee (spelling?) Lake Park. It is pretty big, but I have never been there. I guess the biggest thing I would recommend would be to just drive. Cover the entire state and stop at any bed and breakfasts that you may find. It could be fun just to do that!

We plan on driving up Mt Washington. Sputnik will have to have a "once over" at the garage before we do... hopefully the brakes and the continentals will be fine. Maybe I should put the snow tires on before going down there... Friends of ours said that you can smell your brakes coming down the mountain.

Just got back from New Hampshire! Had a good time and saw several fusion Vibes! Did lots of shopping and climbed a couple of mountains as well. Once I get my pics downloaded I'll post one of Sputnik on Mt Washington.

Yeah the leaves had started, but I think the majority of trees were still greenish/yellow. I know here in Ottawa its still not that colourful. It was a very nice vacation. I'm working on getting my photos online, however my digicam seems to have a black blob in the middle of every photo that I want to fix before putting online.

Its a bit of a scary drive up there if you don't like heights - its narrow, winding, road with no guard rails! And there's oncoming traffic. Its fine until you get above the treeline because the trees hide how high up you are. Once they're gone, all you see is mountains and the edge of the road!
