Drivers Side Floor is Soaked......

Post by justin1909 »

I bought an 03 Vibe back in March. Since Spring has rolled around and it's been raining I've noticed a leak coming from the drivers side "pillar". Everytime it rains water drips out from it. My drivers side floor has 2 gallons of water on it and it won't dry for anything. I also have a moonroof. I'm not sure what the problem could be. I called the dealer and they said they would look at it. The problem is, they claim to have never heard of this kind of problem. That means that most likey I'm going to take it there and they're going to say "We fixed it" and then the next time it rains, I'll get soaked. Any advice?

If it was my car, if the leak source was not easily and immediately found (windshield, sunroof drain), I would insist that the carpet be removed to dry completely (which may not be a bad idea anyways), and the headliner be removed to assist in locating the leak source. As this may be more then the warrany policy calls for, if they wouldn't do it that way under warranty, I would offer to pay up to a couple of hours time. I would make it clear, my offer of payment is based on the leak being fixed, and no problems caused by the repair procedure (carpet/headliner removal). Water leaks appear to hard to find and fix properly from other posts. Give the dealer the incentive and tools to get it right the first time.

I work for a import car manufacturer. The #1 cause of water in our cars is a clogged sunroof or AC drain. If leaves or other debris get into the drain they will cause the water to back up and overflow into the vehicle. As your water seems to be coming from the pillar I would lean more towards the sunroof drain.

Sun roof? if so, your hose for the drain is not hooked up. dealer should be able to fix it very easy.

Thanks for all the advice. I rescheduled the appt. with the dealership for Tuesday. Hopefully this gives me enough time to confirm that it is the moonroof leaking. Thanks again
