AWD exhaust? and a CAI question

Post by drw2514 »

So I'm reading mixed things about a cat-back exhaust by magnaflow for the AWD vibe. Does one exist? Magnaflow's site lists it as the same for the base and the awd, but i don't buy that...doesn't the AWD have a super-twisted exhaust? i'm pretty sure that it's at least a little different from the base. Ptuning.com says that one isn't offered for the awd. Anybody know the real truth? Also, does anybody have a sound clip (or know where i can get one) of a vibe with a CAI installed? i know it makes quite a bit more noise. i'm interested in the power, but i'm not so sure i'm interested in the noise. i don't want to sound like one of those annoying super-loud riced-out civics i see on the road all the time, especially if i combine a CAI with a cat-back (if that's even possible for the AWD). i was planning on attending the michigan meet in fenton last month for this very purpose, but some last minute schedule changes by my boss prevented that.thanks for all your help.

Re the sound of a CAI, you can get a reasonable approximation by temporarily unsnapping the air box lid and lifting it aside for a drive. Although the location is closer to your ear than a fender located filter CAI, this simulates the unmuffled inlet sound you will get.

as for the exhaust, you're SOL as far as a premade catback. i would reccomend getting a flowmaster 60 series and having some custom piping done. this is what i hope to do someday (i have awd) as far as the cai, its loud when you get on it, but you cant even really tell a difference when you level out. get one!

the magnaflow says that it will work with the AWD Vibe, right on the magnaflow website:http://magnaflow.com/02product...c.htmscroll to the bottom...last one listed, system #15759, $444.10.I hope that isn't just a grievous error on their part, because they have my hopes up!

if you were to crawl under your awd and the base vibe, you will see why it won't fit. magnaflow may have it listed, but i'm almost positive 99.999% that it's wrong and won't fit. sorry. you should call them to verify. if it is the same part # as the base vibe, then it won't fit for sure.

thats exactly what i figured. i've seen the exhaust and it's, well, 'curvy,' to say the least. i guess i'd have to have some custom piping done. maybe in the future...
