there's a joke there about having 2 people on the seat at the same time and a lot of 'moving around' but i won't go there! I had a VERY similar problem with my last car (VW) and it turned out to be a combination of 2 things....the bushings that the seat rides on underneath (that ride in the slots that the seat moves forward and back on) were loose and just needed a tigheting.the popping noise coupled with the indentation/sag of the back (the 500lb driver look) is probably caused by a few crucial tension seams breaking...take a look toward the back bottom of the seat (viewed from the back seat) and you might see some indications of a few of the 'tension/suspension' seams that have snapped.
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!
update on the driver's seat problem, dealer was vary concered about this loose seat, even they are not for sure what the problem is at this point but they think it's the lsft rail, they ordered for me today, and will install under warrenty when it comes in.they said if that don't fix the problem they will order a new seat with all new hardware, they even went out to the new cars and found a vibe with the hight adjuster on it to see if they could make it move, they pulled, tugged and more but the new vibe seat wouldn't budge, they said they really wanted to get to the bottom of this problem because it could be a safty issue.if you seat in the back seat and push on the top of the drivers seat it will move 1/2- to 1 in or more, they also said they was concerned this may be a defect in the vibe. i'll post things as it develops mean time i would advise all owners to do the test above and see if your drivers seat does this.

Do you happen to lean up to get your wallet or anything out of your back pocket? Or in that case, Do you lean against your back at all? If you do, try to tighten down the bolts that hold the seat down and if that doesn't work, go to the dealer. See what he says.Inder Singh
