Music for the shower

Post by Jahntassa »

I know everyone's seen those shower radio/CD players and whatnot. They usually hang on the shower head itself... well...I got a little more creative.I have a Rio Reciever, which was built by SonicBlue while it still existed. It's basically a dumb terminal. It connects to your computer either through HomePhoneNetworking, or regular Cat5 network, and it streams MP3s from your computer! It has a built-in amp, so it'll power standard home speakers, as well as line-outs so you can hook it up to a stereo.I've been in my apartment a few months, and I missed taking a shower with music...so I pulled this puppy out, and aha! Music! It's magically floating against the wall by using four pieces of wire (this wire in particular is normally used as the remote turn-on for a car amplifier). Using some crimp-on connectors, I suspended it, and the speakers from the wall. Not the cleanest thing in the world, but it's pretty funny to see, so I attatched a pic.I'm a little worried about the condensation from the shower affecting it...but...I dunno. I don't take nuclear showers, so it shouldn't be too bad. Any condensation-proofing ideas? It's pretty much just the small mainboard and a 12v power supply...

Dude, that's the funniest thing I ever saw.Kudos!I have an actual shower radio. Not pretty, but it does its job.If you can take the fabric grille off the radio, put some construction vapor barrier between the speaker and the grille. That's kinda what they use on actual shower radios.as for the rio...that's a toughie...Then again, could you run some plastic from the curtian rod to the ceiling? That would likely hold in most of the condensation I'd think...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

That looks like something I'd do. Wife wouldn't put up with it now though.Actually, I was thinking of putting some extension speakers in our shower hooked up to the tv in our bedroom.

Man, that's cool!!!!! Only thing I can think of is to build some sort of enclosure around the Rio. Perhaps some kind of plexiglass or plastic enclosure? Have some sort of front panel hinged so you can operate the unit... Maybe seal it up good. I don't know! What I do know is, man, that's cool! This is coming from a guy who has to bring his PDA or some sort of radio in there with me...

I thought about just a simple box to enclose it in..i'm mostly worried about when my roomate takes nuclear showers.. I just don't want anything dripping down onto the boards.. The speakers i'm not worried about, they were $20 at BB.. We'll see how it goes, tho.. I might even do something out of thick cardboard and a small PC fan..
