finisihing my audio system

Post by russ257 »

ok so i got a job. so now i will be making good money and can afford to pump up my audio system. I already have the momo mm6 componets in the front. I am going to get momo mmc650 http://www.polkaudio.com/car/p...mc650 for the back and i am going to push these speakers with a jl e6450 amp http://www.jlaudio.com/amps/e6450.html running at 45x6 i will run the front tweeters on a channel and the fron mids on a channel and the rear speakers on a channel. The crownjewel of the system will be replacing my sony headunit with a pioneer avic-n1 http://www.avic-n1.com I am going to get the headunit and speakers from crutchfield they have 180 days same as cash and 10% off if you buy two things and i havent decided where to buy the amp yet thw amp is 17.7" x 9.25" x 2.36" anyone have an amp under the passenger seat and know if this one will fit. i will measure myself but ites reainign now so any knowledge would help

Locate and remove the AM2 fuse from the under-dash fuse block.* Disconnect the negative battery cable. Secure it so it can't accidentally come in contact with the negative battery terminal. I put a workglove over the cable.* Pump the brake pedal a few times to discharge any power that may remain in the system.* WAIT 2 MINUTES. The SIR sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) retains an energy reserve to provide deployment power for the airbags for up to 2 minutes after disconnecting vehicle power. Wait 2 minutes or more as an added security measure before proceeding to the next step.* Once complete, you can disconnect any and all SIR harnesses in areas that you want to work in. To reactivate the SIR system:* Reconnect all SIR connectors.* Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.* Reinstall the AM2 fuse. Replace the fuse block cover.* USE CAUTION while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position (NOT START).* The AIR BAG indicator will flash and then turn off.* If the AIR BAG indiciator does not light, turn the key to off, wait 2 minutes, and turn the key again to ON (NOT START). You should see the indicator flash and go out.

There is NO other unit where you get an in-dash DVD drive, video, navigation, and touchscreen for less than $3-4k. Nowhere NEAR 2000. When you see what this unit does in person, it puts the factory nav to shame. If I had the money..I reconsider getting one. As a note, I just finished installing one of these in a 96 explorer. It is FAST. The nav updates quickly, and it redirects even faster. The video isn't purely crisp and clean, but I didn't have any time to mess with it because the guy had to run off somewhere..

It will go down in price when more companys start making them. Just a matter of how long you are willing to wait.

Nah, it was MSRP at $1,999 since it was announced, I believe. As of now, nobody else has plans to create such a unit, and certainly not for that price. The only other contender is really Alpine, and the Alpine in-dash screen with in-dash DVD player is $1,200, without the DVD Nav system which is approx. $1,200.The next version of the N1 might not come out for another year or two. You might get one used, but I highly doubt it. As far as how long you're willing to wait...? That's gonna be a long time...almost to the point where you never get anything, because every time you're ready to buy, it dissapears after the new comes out..and it doesn't drop in price...

I have the nav system, so in mine, it's in the GM12 adapter as a purple/white wire. Since you most likely won't have that, you might need to pull your instrument cluster to find it in the wires leading to that. Once it's connected, under Nav Menu > Info > Connection tests, it'll "beep" on each VSS tick, so you know you have it.

According to the pinout, both pins 17 and 18 on the cluster connector are vehicle speed inputs.(17 is Purple/white and 18 is white/green)

no in dash pics i'll take those later today but to hold you over here are some install pics here is a pic of the front passenger seat out I decided to use the factory amp bracket to mount the computer for the avic with some modifications of course, here is a pic of the dremel cutting out a hole for easy access to the connections here is the computer in the bracket another view installing the rear speakers, the guy at the store said i might have trouble with the speaker depth, there was no problem at all i was thinking i would have to stick the speaker right to the door, there was more then enough room for the momo mounting plate here is a pic of the front speakers circuit city did these like a year ago unfortunatly i did most of the work installing the head unit so i didnt take any pics of that but it went in just like a regular head unit with a few more wiresi'll post fisnish pics later

so after messing with the system and getting everything adjusted i discoverd my left tweeter had a wire loose at the speaker and the right one was blown. it may have been that way on the old system i just never had enough power to notice it. So since i got the circuit city extended warrenty i ripped them out and took them back. they are an old model so i got my warenty money back on a pro rated basis and a 225 dollar credit. well they dont carry polk momo stuff anymore so i took my buisness elsewhere cause i didnt want a mismatched system and the momos look good. so i ended up getting the mmc6500 http://www.polkaudio.com/car/p...c6500 which match the mmc650's i have in back i kept the old grills though because i like their look better. I also picked up the pioneer XM tuner. They didnt have the antenna and buying the antenna and adapter was a lil pricy 50 bucks and the right antenna at a diffrent place was 90 so i got on off of ebay. I ordered it saturday and had hoped to have it asap but i was stupid and payed by echeck which i thought worker just like when you use a credit card but it doesnt it still takes time to clear. so i wont have the antenna till this weeked so i will do the install on sunday because i am going away this weekend. if it happens to show up friday i will do a quicky install and then route all the wires on sunday. Oh btw it sounds so good.
