Here is an odd occurence that happened to me this weekend; first of all, i went fishing on the missouri side of the mississippi river on the barges where my cousin works (scary walking 3 feet above the mighty miss). we had been there about 10 min when i caught me a pretty good catfish (about 4 or 5 pounds). right after that, my uncle casted out, and at that moment WHACK! a bird had just taken off and his line wrapped around it a la indiana jones! the bird came tumbling from the sky, into the river, and he had to reel it in! i bet noone else has ever caught a bird while fishing! (sadly, we had to drop a brick on its head, it's wing was broke)

I've caught bats before casting plugs at night. The think they're bugs and get caught in the treble hooks. MY dad had a bird try to steal the bait of his rod while we were sitting still and swallowed the hook and all.
Once a gull grabbed my dad's lure in mid-cast, and took off with it. Dad paid out the line until it hit the end of the spool, and it yanked the plug out of the gull's beak. The bird wasn't too happy to lose his "dinner".At the risk of being castigated for cruelty to animals (hey, I'm just reporting the facts, and it's not like it was intentional...), some buddies of mine were on a beach in Florida and one of them tossed a lit cherry bomb. The moment it hit the sand, a big gull scooped it and flew off with it. You know the rest...
